Discover Adding Additional 5% Categories for Q3 and Q4 2019

DoC is reporting a rumor that Discover is adding Paypal as a 5% category for Q3 and Walmart/Target for Q4.

I just activated the Q3 category (Restaurants) on the app and there was no mention of Paypal, but when I login to the desktop site it's there:

Assuming the addition of Walmart and Target in Q4 comes to fruition as well these additions will be very welcomed by me, since I already have restaurants and Amazon covered with other cards.

Edit: It appears the additions for Q4 are walmart.com and Target (.com or physical store). While getting 5% back in Walmart physical stores would have been nice, the Target addition is still solid.

I just opened my app to activate Q3 and noticed Q4 already has Target and Walmart added - very cool!

Are you using iOS? I still don't see either Paypal or Walmart/Target using the Android app.

In any case I'm not concerned; some people seeing it is a good sign (and I can see Paypal already on desktop)... as long as I get the 5% that's all that matters!

Great to see Walmart and Target vs just Amazon. For me Target is a more frequent expense than Amazon.

BTW just activated mine and it said restaurants and paypal.. So they fixed the wording .

I got all excited when I saw that DoC article, but looking more closely on the Discover site Q4 adds "Walmart.com" and "target.com". So I take it as online orders only, not in store, which makes sense as Q4 is usually Amazon, which is online only. Dang! Walmart in store is my biggest brick & mortar spend. I do spend more on Walmart.com than Amazon, but in store would have been great.

All the more reason to hit that app next week. Way to go Discover for raising the bar from what seems- no other lender wants to offer. I personally despise Walmart, but with my family situation, it's practically a necessity.

Nice catch.
I hadn't planned on apping for the 5% Disco, but would have rethought my plans until the .com was noticed.
I spend... a bit too much at Target, like everyone else, but only IN Target, so I may be safe from an unplanned app later in the year.

I never shop Target on-line, so I'm glad they allow physical locations for Target. I despise Walmart so it doesn't matter with them either way.

I'm glad they've added the in-store Target category. Looks like my REDcard will be stuck in the wallet in Q4 as I attempt to maximize double cashback with Disco!

Huh, that’s interesting. PayPal terms on the app specifically say you can use it for Friends and Family payments — I would have thought that was always a cash advance on a credit card? That basically means I can earn 5% back on my rent all three months!
