Cards That Instantly Update Available Credit Post SCHEDULED Payment?

What cards do you have that instantly update your available credit after you make a payment?

For me, it's the following:

- American Express Delta Skymiles

- Citi Costco Anywhere Visa

- Citi Expedia Rewards

Once upon a time, my PayPal Extras Mastercard via Synchrony did this but not anymore.

Why would this feature be an asset to someone? Well...

Maybe you're affluent and just got approved for a new travel card but it has a "toy limit" of $5,000. In order to use it frequently, you use it up to its credit limit and then pay it off quickly so you have available credit again.

Or, maybe you are broke and desparate. You get paid tomorrow and you have very little cash. You gas tank is empty. Your card is nearly maxed out and only has $7 of available credit. You need gas and food. You make a payment of $75 and now have money for food and gas. You know the $75 will come out of your checking account not long after that direct deposit comes through the next day.

I push payments from my bank and as soon as they are received, they are all posted immediately. Sync cards don’t get posted until around 8PM EST the day of delivery from my bank so like I scheduled a payment today, bank will send the payment tomorrow, Sync will post it by 8PM tomorrow.

I haven’t experienced a hold on funds when paying with push payments from my bank’s bill pay other than with NFCU because they get mailed a check and take an extra 5 days to cash it.

BBVA seems to give me back my limit the next day after scheduling a payment and I seem to remember Capital One did as well but I have heard recently Capital One has been holding payments for a few days for my buddy who does push payments.

I wouldn’t really rely on credit card companies always restoring your credit limit with a pending payment because they can decide not to any time.

All of my cards post payments within 24-48 hours, except for my sole AmEx card. If I make a payment in the A.M or early afternoon, not only will AmEx post the payment the same day but the money is also withdrawn from my checking account.

Of course, it should be noted that posted payments and instantly updated available credit, post payment, are two separate matters.

I'm trying to figure out what credit cards and creditors immediately update the available credit on the account after consumers SCHEDULE their payment? As in, same-day available credit update, even if the payment hasn't officially "posted" yet.

Chase makes your CL available immediately, but the one caveat is the payment has to be made from a Chase account. The outstanding balance still shows for another day or so, but your limit is reset.

Citi updates both your credit limit and also the balance right away, and you don't need to pay from a Citi account.

Good one. I completely forgot about this. I have a Chase Freedom card and I use Chase for my checking account.

Makes me wonder. If I get a Capital One checkings account and link it to my Quicksilver card’s payment methods, will my available credit be updated instantly? Hmmm.

Nope. I have both CC and bank accounts with Cap One and it doesn't work like that.

My Citi DC and Amex BCE both reflect the payment immediately. However, the money doesn’t get taken from my bank account until the next business day.

As soon as I submit the payment online at Comenity AKC website the card goes up in available credit by amount of the payment.

There’s going to be a lot of YMMV when it comes to the question of which ones update the balance immediately because it’s going to change based on their relationship with you.

Discover doesn’t update right away for me but my QS actually does. I had forgotten about it because I moved to push payments but the QS always did show the available credit returned as soon as I scheduled a payment on the website for that day.

Chrome. I just re-confirmed. Updates immediately for me. I don’t have any charges on my Cap1 so I can’t test it.

Must be YMMV as USAA posts my payments immediately whether from an internal USAA account or an external bank account. Interesting ... as has been mentioned in this thread ... may be relationship based? As to Discover, it has always been at least the next day or longer.
