Chase is the “hot” card to have? That’s a new one for me. Most of their offerings for me are useless. I only have 1 card left from Chase and I’m on the fence about closing it and being done with them.

If my interests ever change and I become more travel oriented, I would certainly consider them but I would be much more likely to choose Amex.

Chase is really all about travel. Good rewards, transfer partners, and protections.

If you don't travel a fair amount, then the cards don't really offer much.

*Also popular are Amazon for shopping and Slate for BTs...but most of the enthusiasm is for the travel cards.

My sapphire (approved last week, but still yet to arrive in the mail) will definitely be a strictly travel-oriented card. I really only plan to charge airfare/hotel/rental car bookings to it, and the rewards will be redeemed for more travel.

If you don't travel much, and don't have much interest in starting, then the sapphire cards may not be right for you. The freedom card (regular Freedom, not Freedom Unlimited) is still a good one for rotating categories, though... for anyone, not just travellers. It potentially becomes even 150% better just by having a sapphire card you can transfer to the points to and use them for booking travel, but you have to be a pretty big spender to make that work and, obviously, you have to want to travel. Otherwise the Discover It card is basically the same thing. A lot of people like to have both Freedom and Discover IT, so they have 4 rotating categories every quarter. Add in the US Bank Cash+ card, and now you've got 6 quarterly 5% back categories, and two of them you get to select yourself.

I went with Chase instead of AMEX purely for the travel partners. I don't think of it as a 'hot' card, so much as that there are a number of us who value what they give.

There are plenty of people around here with a TON of AMEX love, and for good reasons (for them )

When I started my rebuild, I really, really, really wanted Chase. They had the Marriott card, the Sapphire products and United. However, due to past relationship and a reporting BK7, they won't have me.

I have found that AmEx has become the Hot cards for me with Marriott and Delta. Also, I am researching whether the MR program will work for me. And I think it will. So, although Chase could have fulfilled my needs, AmEx will do the job quite nicely too.

If "hot" is to mean faddish, then keep in mind 5/24 prevents trend chasers from getting (most? all?) Chase cards in the first place.

Of course, with more issuers becoming sensitive to new accounts and overall exposure, the whole "flavor of the month" scene doesn't seem nearly as big.

Light travelers may be best off with either Amex or Chase (or Marriott/Citi/DC/whatever). Moderate and frequent/luxury travelers can get a good value from having multiple programs.

I actually closed my credit card with Chase and I am in the process of completely terminating my relationship with them. I do my credit cards with Bank of America now and I get 3.3% on travel/1.65% on everything else with just their basic savings account. I am also evaluating investing with BoA long term which would boost me to 5.25% cashback on travel/2.65% on everything else. The latter would be a breaking point to get into Plastiq for me as I would net 0.15% on all expenses.

I don't use Chase because 1) the airline I is not on their partner list, 2) every time I call them I speak with someone outside of United States, 3) I don't trust them to keep my savings and income and they don't support ebills on their credit products.

Chase works for me because the UR's work for where I want to stay and with who I choose to travel. My wife is using rental cars on a regular basis, so CSP's primary collision protection is a no brainer and typically saves $30+/day on LDW charges. (The LDW savings alone put me ahead of the AF on CSP). I don't believe I've ever gotten a foreign call center when I've called Chase, but this very well could be YMMV. Either way, the CSR's were always very helpful at addressing the issues I brought to their attention. I had my FU converted to Signature and it was as easy as ordering a happy meal. I called BBVA inquiring about the same and the CSR had no idea what I was talking about. (I swear he had to Google it ) At first, he told me I needed to contact Visa themselves for the upgrade. In the end, he told me to charge a lot, PIF and travel a lot and it would happen automatically...

I think csp and csr you get domestic call centers most of chases other cards you get sent overseas when you call in,do that may be reason why. I wouldn't necessarily consider that as a negative with chase because with other CCC you don't get us based customer service unless you go high end. Even amex gold you get sent over seas and you are paying a pretty high af for that card

I wouldn't necessarily consider that as a negative with chase because with other CCC you don't get us based customer service unless you go high end. Even amex gold you get sent over seas and you are paying a pretty high af for that card

You always get US based customer service with Discover. Same goes for Bank of America. I called Citi recently and I got US based customer service too.

Discover everything is US they based their advertising on that. As far as BOA and Citi I have had mixed with Citi experience with DC and premeir sometimes i get us sometimes i don't . I don't have any expereience with BOA since i don't have any of their cards so i don't know.
