I definitely agree with ficofever that you need to do what's best for you or what you feel comfortable doing. I just think you let a lot of web blog complainers convince you to close a good card.

I actually took your advice and googled Juniper looking for bad reviews. Then I checked these exact same sites for complaints against BofA,Chase,AMEX, and Citibank. Funny thing...I found the exact same types of complaints against all of these companies there also. CLDs,rate jacking, late fees, incorrectly applied payments...all the same.

So, if you want to believe the blog 'plainers...best get rid of all your other cards too!!! According to these blogs, they're all bad..

My score was definitely less than 650, and I received a $500 credit limit. If you're okay with a low limit, I say go for it...I know I regretted applying and receiving such a low limit, especially after looking at my report and getting my score up over 700 now. I wonder what limit I would have gotten now, and they're stingy with increases.

I received a preapproval in the mail and went online and apply and I was approved instantly for a $3,500 credit line and a 7.99 fixed APR back in December 2008. I immediately close the account before I even receive the card. While waiting for the card to arrive home. I read and research about their (Juniper) services and I saw alot of complaints about Juniper, I mean tons tons tons of complaints. I don't appreciate any credit card issuers with lots of negative and bad customer service. So i mailed in a letter and request to close it. It was my mistake for not doing research about the card and services. I do research more on the card issuers before I apply next time, I learn my lesson. Don't want to get all the surprise stuff down the road.

Good luck if you are with Juniper Services..

Message Edited by CreditCard101 on 06-09-2009 06:14 PM

$3,500 Instant Credit Line is nice, however, there are too many complaints about Juniper.
Really have to say that I've never had any of those, nor any other issues with Juniper and I've had their card for several years now. The only thing I don't care much for is their reluctance to approve you for more than one of their credit cards. Not that they never do, just that they don't seem to do so very often.

I had some customer service issues early on when they used to charge I think $20 to actually speak to a live body. Used to be just email was free. I think they've changed that since. No problems with on line payment now, but I recall when you get started they limit the timing and number of payments you can make within each billing period.

Rate's been locked at 8.99% since day 1, a few CLIs, but not lately. Always keep my balance between $0 and 28% but rarely above 18%

Good luck...

I thought my rate was locked at 8.99 til they changed it to 14.99 couple months ago. When I first got the card I got a couple of CLI, then out of the blue I got a CLD. Limit got up to 1750 now it's dropped to 1550. I also have the $20 diffference on my limit and my available. I haven't had much dealings with customer service except to ask why the APR increase was told it was business decision. All in all I can't complain, would much rather deal with them than Chase.

I've been a Juniper customer since 08/2008. Made the mistake of going for both the Barnes and Noble card and Itunes. Rather than give me $800 limits each, they took the $800 and split it $500 to $300, then made me wait 6 months to get the initial $300 I lost. It ended up being such a pain that I decided to close the Itunes account, but not before I transferred the $300 to the Barnes and Noble card for $1100 total.

Juniper is NOT a bad issuer at all. Yeah, they tend to be a bit rude, and sure they are stingy on the CLI. But I have yet to pay them interest. I have yet to pay an AF with them. And I enjoy my $25 gift cards per $2500 I spend (not exactly mountain moving, but I am a big bibliophile... ).

Between Barclays (Juniper) and Bank of America, both of them have been very good to me, because I have been good to them. If you can get in with a CC issuer who will give you at least a little something back, PLUS not charge an AF, I highly recommend them to any of you. Chase won't take me, and neither will Citi (currently). I had to fire both HSBC and Hooters because I didn't need their cards with AFs. I am going to need a 3rd card for util's sake and I don't like carrying a balance on the reports, but I try to keep it small. I'm a PIF guy...so APR means nothing to me. If you don't plan on committing the mistakes that lead you to this board and others, then don't be afraid of getting a Juniper card.

I'm having an awfully hard time understanding the Juniper bashing here. My own account was opened about 4 years ago when I still had a dismissed BK showing on my reports along with a CA. Juniper gave me a $1500 CL which has since been increased twice to a CL of $4500. Not wonderful, but not bad. They also lowered my APR during those years. Only recently has this APR been raised, and only back to the original interest rate it opened with. Nothing like the huge rate jacks many are experiencing from Chase or Cap One.

I truly believe that you could surf the web and find horror stories about any company you were investigating. I definitely would not have closed out a $3500 account with a 7.9% APR because of anything I read on the web. You haven't a clue how these people handled their credit or even if some /most of them were telling the truth. Most web posters have their own agendas.

Message Edited by VEEnVEGAS on 06-11-2009 04:32 PM
