No More Citi Dividend PCs?

Just had an interesting conversation with a Citi CSR who explained that Dividend was no longer available via product change. I had hoped to add that card for my eventual move into the 5% category cash back world... I ended up going to the DoubleCash which I suppose is a fine card, but a bit of a bummer since I already have a good 2% card. Oh well.

Anyone else heard about this change in Dividend availability? CHeers.

The Dividend has been discontinued for years so this is not surprising. I think others mentioned it on reddit.

My understanding of some recent product realignments, that it's being evaluated on a case-by-case basis if an account is eligible. It appears that any recently opened accounts (<1.5 years) may not be as prone to trigger the PC, but it seems YEMV. There were a couple recent Dividend PC successes from ~2 weeks ago, but I'd venture that window might close eventually.

I always thought Citi didn't allow PCs before a year no matter what the situation, but maybe some people squeak around the requirement.

I think that is right, I had to wait for my 12 month mark to PC. Previously they CSRs didn't have the option on their computers to PC my card so they told me to wait for the year mark and low and behold today they had the option.

I know they have been closed to new apps, but they had been letting people product change into the card... Could be a stricter case by case basis as mentioned above

I edited the post to reflect 1.5 years (18 months)... I was typing too quickly and didn't catch it. And, yes, PCs that could occur in less than a year are fairly rare for no AF Citi CCs since I've only read about 2 or 3 cases.

I hope they still allow this because I was planning on PCing my Premier to this next week when my card hits 1 year. If I cant PC to this, I'll likely just close my card since my limit is only 5.2k anyways.

Getting a Dividend card is easier said then done. A lot of people think it is a cake walk when it can be a game of patience. First PC's do not generally show up for accounts in the first year at Citi. After that your CSR has to know about the Dividend card and want to risk increasing the customer base of that kind of card even though it is discontinued for the public. Lastly they required you to wait a long period of time in case you changed your mind. The whole process takes something like 2-3 months plus that first year. Basically you are fighting an uphill battle against the largest card issuer in the world. Eventually Citi will close all of the loopholes.

This is spot on. Plus, the card has been discontinued and not marketed for what, 5 years now? It doesn't make sense they'd allow people to switch to it indefinitely. I thought when they first discontinued it for apps, there was some rumbling about them launching a new version of it, but that obviously never came to light.

I would say this loophole is basically dead. Of course we will wait and see if others try the PC, but word around the Internet seems to be no success lately.

It is surprising that the Dividend is still alive, although Citi took quite a long time to kill the Forward (but they nerfed it to uselessness before killing). What's strange about the Dividend is that it requires maintenance from Citi, each year someone(or more likely a team) have decide the categories, advertise them, and perhaps make deals with some of the categories, like Home Depot. Seems easier to just convert everyone to another card, like the Rewards+, growing the market share of that!

Citi already tried voluntarily conversions. They tried to push people to the Citi Double Cash card. Anyone that has a Citi Dividend card right now is a die hard supporter. Also this specific card is a unique structure so people clearly like it enough to stay but at the same time Citi is making a profit. In short aside from Citi's restriction on new apps it is highly likely that the Citi Dividend is a growing product that Citi just cannot kill off because there is nothing to replace it with. Lastly the Dividend has already been nerfed just like other cards that Citi tried to get rid of but, just like in Frozen, people do not want to let it go.

I’m going to try to PC my DC to it and I will report back.

Also since my PC from my AA plat to DC isn’t finalized till August 15, would it even be possible to even change the product change to another card instead or would you have to revert back to the original one?

In short aside from Citi's restriction on new apps it is highly likely that the Citi Dividend is a growing product that Citi just cannot kill off because there is nothing to replace it with.

Citi could easily force people to a Double Cash. It's still a cash back card. Really, there's nothing that says they have to replace it with a card that's even similar.

What was the nerf? I've had it for about three years and haven't noticed! (Assuming you don't mean all the recent cuts to price rewind etc, which applied to cards they want to keep as well)

The T&C (that would have been read to you and sent via snail mail) meant the product would revert back to the original card type. So, if you don't want to proceed you'd have to cancel before 8/15. Not sure, though, if the option "clears the pasture" to provide you another PC since you elected to take this one, but changed your mind.

For the Citi Dividend they gutted the good categories at the right time of year. Basically they had Home Depot Q1 which is the middle of winter while most home improvements are during the summer. Now they have joke car rental and airplane tickets even though the travel season is already done. It used to be better positioning of the 5% category for the things people wanted most at a time.

I really messed up now. I already have a Citi Double Cash and I applied for a Citi Premier 6 months ago. The only reason I applied for the Citi Premier was because I wanted a Citi Dividend card and planned to product change after 1 year. Since I am not at the 1 year mark, I tried to call it just a moment ago and product change my Double Cash to the Dividend, but was told that it can't be done!

The CSR said that my Double Cash can't be converted to the Dividend card because most of the features are the same, but if I want to get a Dividend card it would have to be a new application (likely incorrect), and she said she can either product change my Double Cash to another product or transfer me to the application team. Man...if I suspected this would happen I would've product changed my double cash to this months ago and then just product changed my premier back to double cash later down the line.

Try the online chat. That is how I PC'ed mine.

Chat said to me that I have the following options:

1. Citi Premier
2. Citi/AAdvantage Executive
3. Citi Rewards+
4. Citi Prestige Card
5. Citi Thank you Preferred Card
6. Citi Diamond Preferred
7. Citi Premier.

I don't know why they listed the Premier twice, but anyway, what card did you product change? Was it a Double Cash and how long ago did you do it?
