Barclay Ring card appears to be discontinued (again)?

Iirc, a few years ago, Barclay discontinued and stopped offering its Ring card product, only to bring it back after about a year or so with a somewhat higher go-to interest rate of 14.24% V or thereabouts (vs. say for example 8% V when it was originally launched). Now it appears it may be discontinued yet again? Their Ring website page for example displays a message of "Thank you for your interest in a Barclays credit card. Unfortunately this offer has expired".

Just curious, does anyone think it is possible that Barclay may relaunch the Ring card again at some future point, or do you think it is permanently closed to new apps?

With all of the Brexit mess they’re dealing with, Barclays seems to be getting rid of all of their cards that aren’t cobrands for the time being. Nobody really knows what will happen.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with brexit to be honest.. Barclay's never knows what they are doing with their American based CC's. It is a big mess and kinda a circus show being the core cards as they pull them and relaunch them all the time. The RING has been pulled several times and most recently it was a huge nerf with the 13 or 14 goto apr vs the legacy holders at a better APR. They have pulled the arrival+ many times as well to re-open applications at a later time as well. Maybe they only want x amt of cards issued at any given time, etc? Who knows, but doubt brexit would play any role in their American CC division.

I agree with this. Barclays is a funny one. Even the link for co-branded Uber has appeared and disappeared.

There was an article some months back advising Barclaycard US to pull back their exposure in the US due to uncertainty over Brexit so it’s definitely impacting decisions.

Yeah, Barclay seem to be really trimming down their credit card portfolio over the last year. I had a Barclay Rewards Mastercard account that was recently handed off to Mercury.

Mercury did give me a nice credit limit boost upon taking over the account so it wasn't too bad.

Barclay seems to want to be (or the market is forcing them to be) more of a Comenity or Sync type lender, only issuing cobranded cards with various retailers/companies. Whether they will come out with more of their own cards or not, who knows, but I kind of doubt it honestly. None of their core cards were ever really that innovative or exciting, mostly being copies of other products out there. The old version of the Ring with the 8% APR had utility for certain situations, but the newer one that was discontinued more recently was ~14% APR which is nothing special for a CC with no rewards.

I believe that right now you can (only) apply for the Uber card from within the app. That change wouldn't have been done without at a mininum Uber's cooperation, if not at their behest.

I am not the only one that has noticed this but i have never seen the option to apply for the uber card within the app.

It has been discontinued for a long time. I have that and the rewards card. Both now are extinct. Just last week I called and questioned about a product change. They said none were available. Granted, I have a low int rate on ring, but I have better with others. Would of been nice, to get a better rewards value in a different card. No dice.
