You probably don't want all your eggs in one basket, but you also don't want to spread too thin. You'd have to run the numbers for your spend to see if it's worth paying for a Blue Cash Preferred in addition to the Chase UR setup. It could be best to just get a no AF cash back card for use alongside your UR setup.

As always it depends on where you spend and, in this case, how you value URs. BCP makes sense only if you have enough grocery spend and value URs below say 3cpp

Either Fort Knox or Ducks Unlimitted since Chase doesn't consider gas as travel and you only get 2.25% back from CFU/CSR combo. Of course when Chase Freedome/CSR gives you 7.5% back then you switch back to that combo.

Always a loaded question, because the answer will be quite different depending on what you spend money on, how much you spend, how you plan to use those Ultimate Rewards and how much value you asssign to different rewards programs. Pairing a cash-back card with a travel rewards-oriented system like URs might not be the best option.

If your ultimate goal is to transfer points to say Virgin Atlantic or Air France/KLM, then the trifecta could certainly be paired with a number of cards earning Membership Rewards, ThankYou Points, or Marriott points. But to give any real kind of suggestion, we'd need to know what you're spending, where, and how you plan to use your rewards since these things are most certainly not one-size-fits-all.

Agree with K that that this is a complicated question where ymmv given your annual spend. I found efficiency in filling gaps of the with the following:

Amazon Prime Visa. It's not points, but we run a ton through amazon annually and Whole Foods is the grocery store in walking distance from our house. It makes a lot of sense for my spend on a grocery/amazon level.

Chase Ink Cash. I do some side consulting work and speaking engagements. This slots in to cover my phone/cable/office supplies and adds to the UR portion.

Hilton Aspire. Chase's main transfer partner is Hyatt. I prefer Hilton. I find the Aspire to work really well for the free night, airline credit coverage, upgrades (specifically international), and the other ancillary reimbursements and credits. Very easy for me to recoup AF.

Others like to use Altitude Reserve paired with Chase UR or AMEX MR for the credits and easy mobile pay that ensures you're maximizing all spends.

The Ink Preferred might be a good one if only for the SUB (80k/$5k in 3 months), plus the 5x on cell phone and Internet can help you rack up quick UR points.

Like others have said, it really depends on your overall spend. If you are all in with Chase, I’ll just suggest using your chase cards for all purchases instead of trying to maximize all spend across different ecosystems. I’m the same way and I’m trying to get in the habit of just using 2 cards regardless of rewards.

for example, going forward I plan to use my Altitude Reserve for all mobile purchases/travel/non category spend and Savor for 4% back on restaurants/entertainment and 2% groceries. This lineup certainly doesn’t maximize all spend but it’s simple. It allows me to collect tons of AR points and a fair amount of cash-back since a good portion of my spend is dining.
