Chase replacing CSP due to fraud and wants the old card returned.

I saw a couple of bogus charges on my CSP account, called Chase, no problem, charges removed, new card sent.

The new card package included a post paid return envelope with instructions to send the old card back to them for secure destruction. I've had lots of cards replaced due to fraudulent charges over the years, but this is the first time an issuer has ever asked for the old card back.

Has anyone else here seen this? My shredder probably won't handle the metal card, but I think I can adequately destroy it. Any other reason to return it vs. doing the deed myself?

Chase replaced my metal Amazon Prime card due to fraud. The new card arrived with a return mailer for the old card for disposal since they are pretty indistructable and require special processing to be recycled. You can also drop your old card off at any physical Chase bank location for the same secure processing.

Chase has been including those envelopes with "metal core" cards for several years.

I don't use the envelopes. Metal core cards are useful in household cleaning.

Returning the card may be faster (if you're going by a PO drop box anyway, at least) but may be less entertaining.

Some shredders can handle it, others can't. I'd be cautious.

Right, I don't think they really are requiring the old card returned, just offering their standard service for harder-to-destroy cards

I colllect them. I have 3 gold cards and 3 CSP.

You are not required to return your old metal card. You can cut it up yourself with tin snips, but it won't be recyclable without special processing only available by Chase.

I have seen Chase sending the return envelope for couple of friends for their old CSR. Most likely Chase is going to recycle the metal in the card.
