If you do it on the app, they will tell you how much you are eligible for and you can decline or choose any amount up to the amount they give.

I had a Cap1 card at $2500 and made a few big purchases and paid the card off (within $100). I was offered a $3k increase.

I have a second Cap1 card that was at $3500. I made several purchases but it still had about a 30% balance. I was offered a $500 increase.
CapOne CLI Strategy?

I've done a lot of reading on the boards here and it seems that there is definitely mixed results and experiences with CapOne CLIs, but I am hoping on advice on the best way to successfully get a CLI on my CapOne card. It was opened in 2006 and currently has a limit if $1750. Credits scores are around 700 and I have an income of $200k plus. I am trying to raise my credit scores as quickly as possible for a mortgage refinance, but have foolishly been carrying balances on my CCs. I can pay down the balances on all CCs a good amount, but not completely off (just won't have that much extra funds in the next month), so I am thinking that a CLI on my CapOne might be a quick fix to get my overall utilization % down, in order to raise my scores as much as possible. Long term, I am paying all CCs off.

Any advice on the best way to get a CLI from CapOne in the next 30 days? And what is the best way to request? On their website? By calling? Something else?

Ive had their carad since 2014, 5 years now and never seen a CLI from them. still wont give us one. one time they say not enough monthly payments, next time itll say average payment to low, next time it will say balance to high. its always a different reason on the denial letter they send out

I would call and see how much you are qualified for. If it’s what you like, accept. You can also do so online or on the app without a hard inquiry.

In the past, if you request online they give you what they give you.

randomguy1 - so I can call and ask them how much they are willing to increase my limit (if anything) and they will share preliminary qualification information without actually going through with the increase? Any increase would be helpful, but it would be interesting to actually speak with someone that can give me preliminary information.

Cap One usually likes heavy usage before giving cli. 30 days seems to short a time period but it might be worth a try.

If you accept an increase, you'll need to wait six months to ask again. That's the only thing you really need to worry about. If you're denied or if you decline an offer, there's no time limit before you can request again. No harm is done by requesting.

As mentioned, you're more likely to see success if you've been using the card regularly and heavily.

This could very well depend on which Cap1 card you have. Heavy usage over time will get you nice CLIs.

If you're going to call them, you need to get past the first level CSR as it's the same thing as requesting a CLI online.

Yah the first level guy told me yesterday that it’s all automatic online. And they can’t do anything. It’s okay I’m moving all my spend to my new shiny discover and build relationship with them. Cap one can have a small $10 recurring charge a month with auto pay set up for $10 a month lol. And I’ll throw it in the drawer.

A FICO score is a snapshot in time, so it can change a little during the course of one month, but FICO scores do a pretty good job of evaluating/rating one's creditworthiness.
