Downgrading from Barclay Silver Aviator to Red Aviator

I have had the Red Aviator card for about a year now and a few weeks ago Barclay offered me the chance to upgrade my card to the Silver Aviator. I decided to go for it since you could still cancel the change before the new annual fee of $199 hit. I have been further weighing my options since I upgrade the card and have been waiting for it in the mail. I know for the first year that I would have it, it would be worth it for the Global Entry Credit and the $25 a day food credit, but after the first year, I am not sure if it would be worth it for me to hold on to. Has anyone ever downgraded from a Silver Aviator back to the Red Aviator or even to another card? I've searched the web and have not found any stories of people doing this.

The Red Aviator downgrade may not be possible until after you've had the Silver for about 12+ months, but this can vary since you just recently did the upgrade (not sure if you are still within the window to cancel and revert back to Red). You would need to contact them to see what the system allows for your downgrade options.

Worse case scenario, the other downgrade option would be the White, no AF Aviator card. Of course, not many benefits with that product, but then you could upgrade back to Red when the system provides the eligibility.

When my second AF posted on Aviator Red two weeks ago (at 12.5 months) I called seeking at least one of:

1. An AF waiver

2. A bonus-miles-for-spend retention offer

3. A PC to White

None of those options were available, so I closed the card. I didn't have the option to PC to White or any other card.

When my Silver Aviator reached the 1 year mark a couple months ago, I had the option to reduce the fee to the Red AF ($99) + was given the option of 10,000 AA miles for spending $1,000 in 90 days.

The other option was to downgrade to the White, no-AF card. So, I took the reduced AF + AA miles instead 😁 and kept Silver.
