I don’t know where you live or if you’re traveling with someone, but you could also look into the Alaska Airlines card by BofA. The companion fare alone makes the card very valuable, so we actually have 2 cards. A trip to Hawaii from the East Coast can easily cost $800 or more, and I can use the companion fare with stopovers to visit more than 1 place. Not sure if it’d work for you, but it’s worth mentioning.

Hello my FICO I am planning a trip to Hawaii and I was wondering if the Hawaiian airlines card would be a good choice, and what pros and cons are there to getting it.

They could go a long ways towards your flights. Otherwise it seems to get 2 HawaiianMiles back per dollar on gas, dining and grocery stores and 1 mile per dollar on everything else. Doesn't seem to offer any benefits for spending specifically in Hawaii or anything else so I'd imagine it's more of a card for those who fly that airline often.

I recently obtained this card. Only reason I got it was to use the points to upgrade my cabin flight to first class.

I personally don't think the Hawaiian card is worth keeping after using the bonus unless you frequently use Hawaiian Air. A one-way first class from Bos-Oahu is 650ish main cabin...4.1K ish for first class. I used 50K/60K to upgrade to first class which is well worth the 11hr trip, then transferred the remaining 10K to my Jetblue trueblue account.

I do plan on canceling the card at 11 months.

I agree that if you don't fly HA often, it's essentially a one use card.

I guess if you have an easy $2K spend coming up, don't mind a HP, new account and paying $99 for a $500ish (west coast) flight to Hawaii. Go for it!

Why cancel at 11 months? Wouldn’t it be better for you just ask them for retention before the AF posts? Also, is Barclays an issuer that won’t refund within 30 days of the AF renewal?
