It's also been mentioned in other threads. This was actually the first card I thought about when I first heard of the sad news. It will definitely be my card for Uber's nerfed categories, including Uber and UberEats (as discussed in this Citi Costco thread).

Ah, my mistake! I read the whole thread and somehow missed that one. Apologies...

As ambivalent as I sometimes feel about Citi, I must say that my Citi Costco Visa was a major card for me for several years. It got all of my dining and travel spend, not to mention gasoline of course, plus Costco. It's been pushed to the back of my wallet by the Chase Sapphire Reserve that gives me better travel protections and 4.5% back on all my travel and dining when I redeem for travel via Chase UR portal, among other things. But the Citi card is strong in many ways and as a general-purpose card is hard to beat, especially if you are already a Costco member and don't have other travel cards.

Depending on your spend, I don't think Costco is always the best match for replacing the UBER Visa but it might depending on the person. I still think the Wells Fargo Propel AMEX comes closer for many people.

Both are still no-AF (assuming you are already with Costco).

Similar discounts on dining and travel at 3%.

However, Citi Costco card adds discounts on gas and at Costco which the old UBER card didn't give (and which some people might not have been attracted to if they couldn't use those.)

And Citi Costco lacks some similarities the old UBER and Propel have in common.

Propel also has:

3% on rideshares (Better than 2% on old UBER but less than 5% on new UBER)

3% on streaming services (better than 2% on old UBER)

It just depends on your spending and needs.

I have both the costco and propel cards. I didn't like waiting a year for my cash back on travel and restaurants. I will wait the year for the cb on gas for 4% vs 3%. The $300 sub on propel was nice.

Hey everyone!

I hope this is an OK thread to start. With the nerf ball pinging the Uber Visa Card head on earlier today, I wanted to start a thread for suggestions for the alternatives that would either be the most comparable or have striking advantages to the new version of the card. Also, if you have experiences with any of these cards, feel free to share for others. I'll be looking in February, so I look forward to all the comments!

Annnnnnnnnd go...

It was too good to be true. I had my eye on Uber card since it was a great deal but now it’s nerfed and Since I am not apping for the next few months, I will just be taking advantage of cash back deals with yelp and Rakuten and earn cash back that way from dining out (which I rarely do which is why the BCP has been so perfect for me with the 6% back at supermarkets).

I can use Apple Card via Apple Pay at many restaurants and with seamless, uber eats and get 2% back at the bare minimum. Then pair that with up to 10% cash back deal from Yelp restaurants so I could get 12% cash back dependent on where I go. I use the tips from this article - https://wallethacks.com/maximize-cashback-restaurant-dining/amp/

And also I go on cashbackmonitor.com and search for cash back deals for my shopping. It’s a little bit more extra work but it’s way more CB than what my credit cards would have earned me. I don’t have Amex Gold however but again that’s cause I really don’t eat out that often to make the $250 AF worth it.

I am afraid Silicon Valley is done subsidising non-profitable "growth." WeWork was the end. Just as a large portion of your Uber ride was being covered by investors, so was Uber Card perks. Uber is on notice they must show progress towards profitability. Lay-offs have begun, and CC subsidizing is over as well.

Speaking of alternatives to the Uber Visa card.... would Capital One impose or downgrade grandfathered Savor (annual fee $95) now that their competition is not giving 4% back on dining?

I think the Wells Fargo Propel makes the most sense as being close with no annual fee/straight cash back structure in most situations. The Savor One could also make sense if the Entertainment category could compliment one's spend a lot.

With annual fees, the new Amex Green comes to mind, as well as the CSR and Amex Gold if one is in to travel cards. The Capital One Savor really only makes sense if a ton of spend is in the dining category therefore beating out the Savor One with no AF.

if you don't travel, most amex cards would not make much sense, as the MR points have low cash values.

go with propel with s1 backup.
