Those who have any of the Bonvoy credit cards, i'm looking for some insight. There are a few things i have questions about, which aren't clearly explained in any information and unfortunately there isn't much out there to provide answers to questions I have.

First, when do the points show up in my Bonvoy account? i assume they acrue in my Bonvoy portal at Marriott.com, and not in my Chase account, which need to be transfered to Bonvoy. I ask because i've already hit 1/3 of my spend but the points aren't showing up anywhere.

Second, since my SUB is $5k minimum spend i assume i'll get 10k points from that spend on top of the 100k SUB. Correct?

Third, with the Bonvoy Boundless you're supposed to get enhanced internet for free at Marriott hotels. That typically doesn't happen without Gold status. How does that work? Do i "pay for it" with the Boundless card, and i get a credit for those charges? Since i'm only Silver status, how does my account know that i get the faster internet without the gold status? I haven't used my card at any properties yet, and don't have any stays in the immediate future unfortunately so i'm just looking for any individual's experiences.

With the Amex Bonvoy, my points show up in my Marriott account a day or two after my statement cuts. And yes, you'll get the bonus points on top of what the normal spend would get you.

Can't help you on your last question, though.

I get two posting from AMEX, one for the Base spend points and one for the Bonus Category points.

For your second question, yes that is correct. 2× + Bonus Category (4× per dollar more on Marriott) on the top of the SUB. In fact, you might get the category bonus before the sign-up bonus, depending on how fast you meet the requirement.

For your third, I think they will see it when you check-in, provided they have your Bonvoy account number. Just ask for it.

For what it's worth, the difference between the basic and enhanced internet is usually imperceptible. I'm a Titanium and I usually just select the basic internet on the portals because it's all the same in the end. Some places automagically bump me up to enhanced, others don't. Never can tell the difference.

Is the wifi at all secure if everyone has the same password to connect to the same network? I'm not sure if modern hotels have some additional layer of security or not from having people go through an "agree to terms" type of portal before going from the intranet to the internet.

I've always been very cautious about public wifi.

Which is why I never do banking or any info that I don't want stolen at Hotels. I simply use it to search local destination spots and other trivial info.

@staticvoidmain wrote:
For your second question, yes that is correct. 2× + Bonus Category (4× per dollar more on Marriott) on the top of the SUB. In fact, you might get the category bonus before the sign-up bonus, depending on how fast you meet the requirement.

Don't know the exact order it happend because i was out of town when at the time, but when I hit my spend is was the very first charge. So the next time I logged in and noticed my points, there was 115K. I assumed that the SUB was immediate after the spend as with any other SUB, but the normal spend would be applied after the cycle ended. Though this happend right before the new Amex rule of making you minimum payment before the points will post.

First, Chase should be the same as American Express and you'll see the points post to your account a few days after statement closing. I usually see the points added to my total prior to the breakdown of points being reflected on my account activity page.

Second, yes any earnings you receive are going to be top of any signup bonus or welcome offer. The exception to this would be that Marriott occasionally targets much higher SUBs that are not bonuses for hitting X spend, but Y points per dollar up to Z points. (I once received an offer for "125,000 points," but it was actually 12.5x points per dollar on all purchases up to $10,000 spending in 6 months.)

Third, I was not aware of any offer of Enhanced Internet for holding this card. Where do you see this in the cardholder agreement? Gold, Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador Elites get free Enhanced Internet. You just agree on the splash page to pay $24.99 per day or whatever the fee is at that particular hotel, and it's automatically wiped off of the final bill. ALL Marriott Bonvoy members get free standard internet in the US (and many other places) when booking directly through Marriott. The enhancement will vary depending on the property, but I have tested the two against each other in a few hotels. In my experience, this is more apparent in Europe where the standard internet may only be 1 Mbps or slower but the enhanced option is much faster.

What is "Premium Internet" though? I'd wager that it's the same as regular internet, and this just sounds better.

I assumed that internet acces was pretty much "complimentary" at every Hotel, it's been the case wherever I've stayed. And no specific CC required. Other places such as resorts it's included in associated fees.

So this is why I don't value free internet as a CC perk. or am I missing something?

For details, see marriottbonvoy.com/about. Chase is not responsible for offer fulfillment.

I would be very dubious of this statement. The link just takes you to the Bonvoy page where it states "Enjoy complimentary in-room Internet access when you book through any of our websites or apps." Nowhere does Marriott ever refer to "Premium" internet access; every single stay (and I do a LOT of them) I see Enhanced Internet.

The last time i stayed at a marriott i got free internet being a "member". However "premium internet" was an extra charge unless you're Gold elite or above.

@Anonymous wrote:

I've always gotten free internet at most hotel's i've stayed at, however my last stay the free internet was painfully slow. So, i'd like to take advantage of the Boundless free premium internet.

Or, i guess i could just wait until i'm Gold...

I agree with @K-in-Boston. The internet isn't much different between the regular and the "Enhanced". I would however suggest that anyone, Marriott or elsewhere, who's using public internet highly consider a good VPN.

As it relates to a password, I've never been to a Marriott property that has asked for a WiFi password...usually your last name and room number via their splash page is used for authentication.
