I’ve had the BoA CR card for a little over 5 years now as it was one of my first cards when I first started building credit.
I’m not exactly sure what program I was accepted to but I have had a $39 AF since day one.
At this point in my wallet, this card is very unappealing to me because of the low CL(2k) and the AF, however, it is one of my oldest cards.
I’ve called a CSR recently and they said they don’t have an PC offer for me and they also can’t waive the fee.
If anyone has had this problem with BoA before, what are some options I have to make this card more useful or even worth stashing in my drawer?

EDIT: I’ve never made any late payments or missed any payments. I also requested a CLI last month and they said something about I’m at the highest limit they’ll offer me on my card.

Check and see if you're eligible for a cli as you can now request one without a hard pull. If you can get your credit to or above 5K you can request to be converted to a visa signature which will delete your annual fee. Don't give up I started with the secured verison 5 years ago as well now due to cli request I'm not up to 45K. Your card has a lot of potential.

Would you recommend that I use the card and PIF for a couple months or just focus on raising my scores a little bit? I haven’t really used the card in a long time.

1. Wait for annual fee to post.
2. Call csr to request permanent fee waiver. If that doesn't work with one csr, HUCA. Hang Up Call Again and speak with another csr.
3. Repeat step 2 as necessary.

What are your actual scorrs and current profile? You mentioned lower scores and im guessing your current profile has a big say in your Boa card. That and not using it. Boa usually allows limits up to 50% of ones income, more if you have assets, but also want to see some usage imo.

Scores are currently 680-690 across all 3 bureaus. I haven’t actually used the card heavily in almost 3 years, just small purchases here and there to keep it active. I should probably use it as my daily driver for a couple months?

Given the scores you've shared and lack of frequent or moderate activity, there's likely no incentive on BoA's part to stimulate any form of CLI.

You could check, as suggested above, and see whether the AF can be removed once the it posts. But, definitely try to use it more and see about improving those scores. It can definitely help.

Scores up to a certain point with BoA do matter tremendously. It is unlikely you will see any improvement with them until you hit 720. After that, higher scores don’t matter as much to them as much as income and the rest of your profile.

It sounds like they're not terribly interested in keeping the card in your wallet, either. Age isn't enough reason to put up with a card you don't like, particularly one with an AF. Similarly, if BoA isn't willing to make it appealing to you, why go out of your way to find a use for it?

I let a card with no AF and 11 years of history go early this year because I just wasn't feeling it. If it's not a good fit in your wallet, it's not a good fit.
