I applied for the Dillards card which can later be converted to Dill AmEx only because AMEX won't give me one! Grrrr...anywho...I was approved for a credit line of 150.00! WTH???

So I call the number that came on the approval notice. I simply told the csr that the decimal point MUST be in the wrong place cuz all of my cards ( BoA, Discover were at least 4k - 10k). He told me that 150.00 is the lowest cl they issue and immediately transferred me to an underwriter.

So I explained the situation to the underwriter, he asked what I'd like my opening to be and I said 500. He put me on hold for about a minute, came back and said "your credit limit is now 500 effective immediately". Dang, now I wish I would have said 1500.00!

I discussed the conversion to AmEx, and he said to use it wisely for one year, and then ask for conversion. So now to nurture my little card!

My daughter and I always find amazing deals on the clearance racks so it will be used!

Hmm, I think I'll give it a try and apply for Dillard's credit ... some time in June 2010—fourteen inquiries on EX! smdh

Dont waste your time. GEMB store cards can not be upgraded to major cards. It is a waste of inquiry. I closed my dillards store card about 2 years ago since they would not upgrade to Amex.

*nod* That's what I've been told, too, by the agents. Although you've apparently never been able to ask for an upgrade, for a little while GEMB was selecting people for upgrades based on meeting certain criteria. The last time I asked about that, I was told that GEMB had discontinued that.

Congrats on obtaining a Dillard's credit card.

GEMB is well known for their low credit limits and very low credit line increases.

Yes it is possible to convert this to a Dillard's American Express card in the future, however, both Citibank and Bank of America's American Express Card offerings are 3000% better in my humble opinion.

The damage has already been done. You will be hit with the new account on the credit bureaus so might as well keep it open.

Meanwhile, you can always try to open a Bank of America or Citibank American Express card. I have (2) Citibank Amexes, (1) Bank of America Amexes, and (1) Costco Amex (which is issued directly from American Express).

I ONLY use my Costco Amex at Costco and restaurants because I don't trust American Express and their F/Rs. Otherwise, I use the BoA and Citi Amexes whereever I please.

Going back at least 24 months from this forum and other credit related forums, it has been widely discussed that it is POSSIBLE to convert the standard store card to a Dillards Amex.

Please try to remember, that just because it is POSSIBLE to convert the card, doesn't mean that it is guaranteed to everyone. Just like it is possible to have a Target store card converted to a Target Visa. But that doesn't mean that everyone will be converted with either the Target store card or with the Dillards store card.

Always in credit matters is the saying YMMV. Just because something good or bad happened to someone else, doesn't mean you will get the same response when you try.
