Using your card this soon after receiving it or for a somewhat larger purchase really won’t spook them. They know you have a SUB to meet and will actually love the fact that their card is getting used. Just don’t open any more accounts in the near future or have any drastic change to your credit report outside of the expected dings for the inquiry and reset of your AOYA.

I’m in the same boat as you. I just received my Chase southwest Visa card today and have to spend $1000 in the first 3 months to receive 40,000 bonus points. I immediately hit up Sephora and will make it my daily driver until I get my points.

Enjoy your new card, btw.

Right because the earning categories of x1, x2 or x3 on a card are inconsequential during the time you are under a SUB. You'll be getting the equivalent of x40 points per dollar while you aim to knock out that SUB.

I'm in a situation where I'm under 2 Chase SUBs. One on the Freedom Card for x3 spend on the first 20,000 (equivalent to a 30k SUB) and the other the CSP standard 60k SUB. I'm keeping my non-bonus category bills on my Freedom but otherwise going in all the way with the CSP to knock out the SUB. I need $2000 more spend to complete my CFU offer but I have until 6/7 next year to do it.

Spooking them should not be an issue. I spooked them. I opened a new account with them on May 3, 2017, with no prior relationship with Chase. CL was 19,100. I put $1,200 on it from 5/12 until the statement cut on 5/24. They called me to ask about the charges. Then paid the minimum. When the next statement cut in June, my balance was 3,700. Paid the minimum. July closed at 7,700. I'm sure they did SP monthly. But no AA.

I ran the balance up to about 18,900. No issues, no calls. I don't recommend maxing out a card unless you have really solid credit and don't carry big balances on other cards.

You might get a call, if you do, tell them they're legit. No problem.

Honestly the charge you are speaking of 1250 is chump change for Chase.. They won't blink an eye. They are use to handing out very high limit cards and they do this so you have a bit of cushion and you are willing to spend on them. Obviously don't let interest eat into the rewards and pay before it off before grace period. Otherwise enjoy your new card.

Congrats on your Marriott Bonvoy approval!

I can only echo what’s already been said.
