Discover cards are now Contactless

Not sure if this has been posted but I couldn't find it in a quick search. It looks like Discover has contactless cards now.

Timeline:

I first received my Discover IT card at the end of August 2019. A month after, I found out I can get a second card with a new design so I ordered a second card. Both cards were not contactless.

Last week I ordered a new card because I wanted a new design and received it today. It is a contactless card. I double checked my other two cards and they did not have the contactless symbol. This card included a pamphlet advertising the card was contactless.

Is this new? I'm assuming it is as my last two fairly recent cards were not contactless.

My first card from 12/2018 was not, but my second card from 12/2019 is/had paperwork to that effect. So relatively new I guess!

This post is correct I just switched my rewards to Cash Back and got a Contactless card as well at the beginning of the month.

Yes, it's a new thing since December.

I lost my Gerbera Daisy card somewhere in my home and got a new one this week with contactless! The picture of the daisy has changed...but, oh well.

Huh - I was approved at the end of Dec and got my new card a week later. I just assumed Discover was contactless way before now.

It’s relatively new. I decided to get the LOS Angeles skyline card a couple weeks ago and it is contactless. It’s also thinner than the old card, and I’m not liking that so much.

I’m an AU on a Disco opened 10/2019, they weren’t contactless then. But new ones were ordered this past month specifically because of this press release. The sooner US can be dragged out of 1998 the better!

Thanks for letting us know that Discover is now contactless. I just logged in to my account and ordered my new contactless cards!

Coincidentally I received an email a few days ago (after I posted) from Discover advertising being contactless. As somewhat of a germaphobe, I don't mind not having to hand over my card. Not to mention NFC/Apple Pay/etc is faster.

Agreed, there is even an option to order a contactless when going through the steps to replace the current card via Discover site. I hate feeling like I'm violating a stupid beeping machine with a chip card everytime I want gum...

I'm not sure about that statement, in my experiences jamming the chip in is faster, NFC/etc is 2nd and contactless takes the longest

I had to request a new card twice because the first one was not contactless. This doesn't matter at all but I also noticed that my dawn of discover is no longer glossy on the back and the magstripe looks different too.

It's not even close.

I agree, when I can't use Samsung Pay and have to use the chip, the chip is MUCH slower. When chip was first introduced in the US, there were complaints about how it was (or at least seemed to be) slower than swiping. With NFC, I often get confirmation in second or less, never with a chip!
