CSR not a contactless card?

I was trying to use the CSR on a contactless payment device and was not able to do so. My card is older. Do they have contactless cards for the CSR now that I can just request one? I see my new hyatt is contactless and so is my amex gold & plat.

You can request one yourself. You can get a contactless version while still using your old card

My first physical CSR card was not contactless. Sometime in late 2018 or 2019 I called Chase and requested a contactless CSR which IIRC came USPS.

I had no problem adding CSR to Samsung Pay when I finally got an NFC-capable phone mid-2018. I only requested the contactless physical card because I'm concerned a phone may pick up some virus, flawed update, or have a battery die.

ETA: Freedom #1 expired last month. The replacement card was contactless by default without my requesting it.

I think as of late summer, all Chase cards have been issued as contactless. (At least the core cards.) My Freedom is the only one that is not contactless, but it is expiring soon and I am sure the replacement will be. I very rarely use the feature since the cards I typically use are loaded in Apple Pay.

I received the card about 6 months ago.

Tappable cards should have a sideways wifi looking symbol on them - basically 4-5 arcs of increasing size. This might be on the front or back of the card.

Chase has been sending out emails in recent months to encourage people to request contactless cards. I had all mine replaced, but I only used contactless on one of them during the first few weeks, so they sent me 500 UR or 500 mile offers to get me to use the others three times each.

If it doesn't have the contactless symbol, the sideways wi-fi looking one, on the card, you should request a replacement card. The contactless feature works great in Europe!

I noticed the other day even some of the cashiers when they take my card are using the contactless feature instead of swiping it.

That's on your local store, not AMEX. I've noticed more and more places having issues with their EMV readers, I've had a couple tell me "Oh, you can try it, but it's not been working lately." Then I tap and all is well.

I've got three Chase cards. Freedom, FU and CSP. All are Contactless and have been for at least two years. I believe I had to request it for the Freedom and FU.

::shrug:: That article says that if the system is not updated VISA would require signatures. At this location my VISA card does not need a signature only amex, so no idea just weird that only the amex gives me the issue there. Maybe VISA and Amex upgrades to the payment system are different.

There are actually separate certifications needed for each network on contactless, so it's very possible that hasn't been done for AmEx yet. Unfortunately that sort of thing probably also turns off some of the contactless holdouts, especially if they're too small to have a full IT department but too big to simply use whatever their payment processor gives them.

(On that note, I truly think interchange fees are a big reason why places like Walmart and Home Depot still don't support it. After all, the group of holdouts and the group that's part of that long-running lawsuit against Visa/MC have a bunch of merchants in common.)
