DH has had this card for about 8 months started at 1K got an increase soon after opening to bring to 3K. We figured well I figured to try for a CLI, I did not realize we had his EQ locked. I honestly don’t remember locking it, anyhow they didn’t give increase b/c EQ was locked fair enough.

However they locked him out of his account online and said he needed to call their fraud department , I find this a little ridiculous, I can see them asking him to remove for CLI request, but totally locking him out.

This card was in SD anyhow so we may just close it after they unlock it,as this is on my list of possible closure

Not really "stupid", You just Don't understand HSBC's level of Security.

They Don't Call it "World Class" just for the heck of it.

Right now I have just Shy of $250,000 cash in their HSBC Direct Savings.

Honestly, I sleep well at night, knowing some fraudster will never be able to get at it.

I have The HSBC Premier Card and Cash Rewards card with a combined limit of $75,000

I have had ZERO issues with My cards. Customer Service has been top notch IMHO.

I see both sides of it. Sorry for the trouble OP, but at least you know that they secure your accounts if anything is remotely fishy to them (not saying this is fishy in any means, just in general)

It’s been a few months since usage.

I am all for protection on my accounts, I just think this is a little overkill . I just thought the CLI was denied when we got letter mentioning no access to credit report, but they never called or sent letter regarding the account lock .

Their credit card security may be of note, but they have some other areas of concern.

They do tend to get a bit more touchy than others when it comes to account security. It's likely something that was triggered internally, but something that can be resolved relatively quick with their fraud department. It can be a bit annoying because now there's the extra phone call to be made. They're a bit old school when it comes to some of their security protocols. Also, HSBC is one that can close an account for inactivity if no transactions occur in a 6-12 month timeframe. Just something to keep in mind. Hopefully you guys get this resolved soon @Jnbmom

Also, for the above commenters, while I realize there's an element of passion that drives different mindsets when it comes to these instances, let's ensure we keep interactions on a civil basis 😊

Not singling out HSBC in particular, but there's plenty of other areas of concerns for a variety of institutions. I think it's fair enough to point out there's areas of opportunity and improvement for all.

Sorry to hear this. But, I'd call them... tell them you saw that the account was locked, and you just realized EQ was locked. Offer to unlock, if they will recon the CLI. I don't know HSBC, but it might be worth it.

Hi JNBmom

It is possible that since the CR was locked and the card was SD (hadn't been used in a while) that there was a possibility of a fraudulent CLI request. In such a case, I would want a CCC to lock my account until I called and verified it was me who made the request.
