You'll have to be more specific. Every company has a trick/tip. Is there one in particular you are wanting tips on?

I would also suggest using the search feature and to do some reading up. There's so much information here, and if you'll look at the stickies in each category, you might find what you're looking for.

It's hard to call a PC link with just a few options a "trick" when other banks like Citi can generally be way more flexible about PCs.

And there are a few interesting tricks that MF forbids detailed discussion about, so it can be good to keep your eyes open and read between the lines.

These are not guarantees of approval, but at least a SP when applying for CLIs:

Citi cards -- wait for the SP language.

NFCU -- wait until after AR for best SP chances, although last month the floodgates opened for anyone asking for a SP CLI--me included. Also a good idea to wait 91 days/3 statement cuts.

Disco -- always a SP. Some members smash the love button every 30 days. 🤣😆

AmX -- once you have one of their cards, it's usually a SP to get another one.

The below are not tips/tricks, but a game plan for credit success:

Low UT

On-time payments

Never, ever late

Make more than min paymt

No aggressive credit seeking

Allow cards to age to 1 year

That's all I got right now.

In addition to the below responses:

Citi: Call in regularly to ask for APR reductions or APR promos. May not be worth it if you don't carry balances.

Discover: Ask for a 0% promo every 12 months. They hand them out like candy in my experience. Again, may not be worth it if you're the PIF type, but why pass up a free loan?

Amex: Double-dip on credits. Apply in Oct-Dec, use up the credits, then use them some more when they renew in January. Depending on the card, this will recoup the annual fee plus some.

Since nobody's mentioned them yet:

Chase - Don't be a churner. Don't ever expect a CLI unless you ask for it, and it will be a HP when you do.

Hopefully someone reads that last sentence before starting yet another thread about how to get a SP CLI from Chase. Being that it's been, what, a month or so since the last one, we're probably due though.

With Chase I'd say to get them to grow spend heavily and PIF.

Also while the rule is 2/30 for Chase I wouldn't put in another app with them until the week following your first PIF payment. This way Credit Journey picks it up and it puts your utilization in the best possible situation.

The first two together make your credit score almost bullet-proof. (On-time payments includes never, ever late.)

Hi Birdman7,

Prior to the last two month, we would either check our credit reports to see when NFCU did an AR or depend on someone on the forum to spread the word that the NFCU ARs were happening. And if I recall correctly, I think it was every other odd month. Then, NFCU started updating our scores every month. Then last month, something happened--we don't know what. Everyone who asked for a CLI got one via a SP, including me.

And even this month, there have been posts that people are still getting SP CLIs. So for the moment, it appears that the AR doesn't matter. JMO. So, we can't depend on it because NFCU can slam the door at any moment and start doing HPs again.

This is in response to **iced**, #7/13 above. With the exception of the CLI I requested on my CFU the day after I got approved, all of my CLIs at Chase have come from them and they've been generous. Also, no HPs. I do bank with them; could that be the reason?

Does anyone know at this moment if NFCU is doing SP for CLI on their cards ? Any info would be great !
