Is your prequal for the Quicksilver or quicksilver One ?

I’m guessing not the full quicksilver or your prequal would probably be for Venture vs venture one (with SL of at least $5k).

So my comments are assuming you’ve been offered the QS1 with annual fee.

You need to spend $2600/year to break even on the QS1. Rewards will be a straight 1.5% cash back that can be redeemed in any amount at cash value.

Venture 1 will earn 1.25 “miles” per dollar spent (no break even spend needed). That is less than 1.5%, but consider how much over $2600 you’re going to spend to see the effective difference.

Venture miles can be redeemed at cash value for travel purchases. Or they can be redeemed at 1/2 value for statement credit. Or they can be transferred to airline partners. If you don’t have a lot of travel expenses and/or won’t be transferring to airline partners-with venture one, you’re earning .625% cash back.

As a VERY short term deal-I have a Venture One that I’ve been using to get 10x miles at Hotels.com. That promo is over at the end of this month though - but that’s really the only value I’m getting out of the card.

Don’t fret over Venture One vs Venture-You need to spend more than $12.6K per year on the card to earn more on the Venture than the V1 (ongoing-not considering SUB or no AF first year).

To get CLI with Capital One, you need to spend a lot and pay a lot. Does it make sense for you to spend a lot on a card that might be earning .625% in effective rewards? If it does, then go for it.

Do you travel a lot? Are you choosing these cards because they have good value for you? Or because Capital One said you’re prequalified? And if the latter, have you explored other options to see if you may be qualified for cards with considerably better reward options?

I would try to product change your existing platinum card to QS (it won’t have an AF). And then look elsewhere.

If your prequal is for the QS with no AF, that is your best option of the cards listed. But there are lots of 1.5% no AF options out there that don’t pull all 3 CRA. Heck-there are 2% no AF options that don’t pull all 3 CRA.

I’m not anti Capital One by any stretch-but make sure the card makes sense for you and is the best option for your needs.

Not sure it matters if you have the credit profile.

I had SL of $10k on QS after getting a single cli of 9k on previous QS.

Venture (not Venture one) prequal means you should get 5k minimum on any of their cards generally.

My Venture (not Venture one) SL was $30k but that was after improving my scores and spending a ton through other CapOne cards.

I like Venture but Not Venture One.

QS is a solid card with no hassles and better and easier rewards than Venture One.

GL!

Just because Capital One doesn't prequalify you for a given card doesn't mean you won't be approved for it.

Cap1 gave me prequal offers for Venture1 and QS, but they approved me for Savor when I applied for that, instead. $20k SL with just 2 HPs, so it wasn't a borderline approval.

The way to play Cap1 is to get a big SUB and then downgrade. The AFs generally don't make sense in the long run. So for the right profile, Venture is a good card, especially now that Savor only offers a $300 SUB.
