Amex Platinum Priority Security Line

So I've been back and forth to Toronto a few times now and noticed that there is a Plat priority security line. Does any one know or have DPs on whether the US version is granted this perk or CA version only?

Rep said no, US version is not entitled, however, that was after she mentioned she has no idea what the perk was soooo... hoping for some good juju out here, that combined with GE could really speed things up.

Go for it.
The T&C on the Canada AMEX page makes no distinction about country of origin, only that the name on the card must match the itinerary name, and the card be active.

The image of the Canadian Platinum looks the same as the US, so I doubt there is any real difference.

If they are only checking the name and expiration date on the card. Go for it. The cards look identical.

They don't inspect your card - it's only used to get entrance to the security area and there are so many Amexes accepted for it, I doubt they're looking for the minute differences between US or Canadian cards. My partner has no problem using his US Platinum Amex at Pearson (I have NEXUS)

However if you have a platinum you should get Global Entry and get higher priority screening for security and US Customs and Immigration.

I had a Canadian Platinum Amex. It does not have a plane logo on it.

Some Canadian Amex cards do - they're Air Miles (a loyalty program) cards. The one I'm showing here iis a no-annual fee card that doesn't get you any perks in the airport.

Looks like Canadian Platinum cards get YQB and Swissport, while not getting the Lufthansa lounges.

Seems reasonable that some other perks, like priority lines, would vary.

Wow. I had no idea that they were that behind. I know it's kinda tricky to get a firm answer, but is that for all GE applicants who submitted their application back then or potentially some have already processed post-July?

It seems to be all over the place (I posted in that FT thread, too). Some people who applied in July '19 are having to wait 200+ days, while myself, who recently just applied with my new CSR benefit, was conditionally approved 2 in days and had my interview and approval in 5 total days. *shrug* I feel for those people having to wait though. I was prepared for a Fall approval.

I applied for my father August 2019. He was conditionally approved 7 days later and was able to set up an interview.

This is not a perk that has a per-use cost for Amex. Your card is not swiped, tapped, scanned or registered in any way. You hold it up, along with your boarding pass and passport to get into a shorter line for the same screening area. Only cursory visual checks are made at this stage. At actual security they are not interested in your Amex card at all.

The perk isn't a huge deal - you get in a shorter line, but you don't get the easier security you get with Global Entry or Nexus (or TSAPre in the USA. Shoes come off, liquids come out, etc.

Although I'm certainly not advocating anyone try it, you could probably get in with a good quality colour photocopy of an appropriate Amex card.

The parking and car care discounts, on the other hand, are done as statement credits that won't be processed on non-Canadian cards, just like a Canadian platinum doesn't get Saks or Uber credits.

GE isn't a security perk and Pre Check doesn't exist in Canada as it's a TSA program. Everyone gets the same screening which was pretty well executed actually, which was nice.

Yea I'll definitely try the line next time. It would have saved a bunch of time as the regular line was pretty long. Seems like a decent perk.

In Canada, GE actually IS a security perk. You go to the same security line as NEXUS. Which is essentially the equivalent of TSA on the Canadian security side - you take off less, you don't remove liquids.

I live in Toronto. I fly out of Toronto to the US regularly. I have NEXUS. I have a US-based Amex Platinum. I have a US friend I've flown with who has Global Entry and a partner with just a US-based Amex Platinum. I know how security works at Pearson
