Amex CL reallocation - minimum for donor card

I wanted to move some CL from my Aspire to my Bonvoy card to have a bit more cushion for a Marriott stay next week.

My attempts were denied.

Several phone calls later - after initially being told that I had to leave $3,100 on the Aspire (which made sense as that's been the minimum approval SL), eventually they said that the minimum has recently been changed and is now $3700.

I submitted my request for a CL move that left $3700 on the Aspire and it went through.

The online form implies you can move all but $500 (I wasn't trying to do anything close to that though). This $3700 limit wasn't published/displayed anywhere.

I'm not sure if this was a "'me" thing or an actual thing-but the rep said it was a brand new updated policy and not a function of me as a customer/internal limit kind of thing. But who knows.

I've moved limits before and never had issues. But I wasn't expecting this amount as a minimum. Card is over a year old (so it's not got CARD act annual fee limitations).

I'm just sharing my experience.

As it happens, yesterday I transferred 1,000 from my ED Rewards to Blue Cash ED, leaving it at 3000.

On the other hand, I've been unable to transfer anything off my Delta Gold (4000 CL). I'll try 300 for fun. I wonder if it's a difference between co-branded cards and their own, or annual fee cards and NAF

Make sure you wait 30 days from the last move.

I think the cobrands do have different minimums-based on AF. It seems like maybe they increased the minimum SL on the $450 AF cards to $3700?

And/Or the $450 cards are going to become $550 cards.

The increase is indeed likely due to the higher annual fees. It's going to be YMMV based on the donor card. $500 + any pending or cleared balance is the floor (as evidenced by my Blue from American Express card that hasn't been used in a few years where I moved all but $500 to Starwood Preferred Guest in early 2017), but certain cards may have a higher floor. I moved all but $4000 from my SkyMiles Platinum card to my Delta Reserve card in June of last year to bring it up to an even $50,000, but it sounds like if I had tried for much more it would not have been allowed.
