Capital One Visa Signature Upgrade?

Hello,

I have a Quicksilver (8 year olds) that has a $5500 CL that is still a visa platinum and would like to get it upgrade to a visa signature. This card started as a student journey card at $500 CL. I know that one factor was the $5000 CL that was needed and now I meet that requirement. I did do some research and some members on here that were successfully able to upgrade from platinum to signature said it took weeks/months and did tons of back and forth with the executive office.

Is there any easier way to upgrade? Or is it still possible to upgrade? I know at one point people were said it was almost impossible to do so. I was thinking about product changing to a venture one as sometimes with a product change they might also upgrade from a platinum to a signature (I know it isn't guarenteed).

Could I also for from Quicksilver to Venture One back to Quicksilver even?

Is there a specific benefit of a VS that you would actually use or are you looking to "upgrade" just because?

I have a QS that was originally a Plat that has been over $5K since 2017 (currently $8250) and still no offer to upgrade to WMC.

I have thought about VentureOne as well to see if that sparked an upgrade but I haven't done it because there's no guarantee I'll be able to PC it in 6 months. It's not really worth the hassle (although part of my reasoning is because I have a custom card image and I want to get rid of it and go back to a stock design).

The only thing is I think the last couple PC's the option didn't appear in the upgrade link. A quick phone call got it taken care of though. Just need 6 months in between.

So they'll do it over the phone even if you don't have an online offer? I mean I hardly ever use the card so if I can't PC it back, I won't kill me, but I DO use the virtual card number feature for online subscriptions and websites I'm not too sure about and it's my oldest card by 3 years so I'm pretty much never going to close it.

That's been my experience the last two times, going from QS to V1 and this last time going back. Not sure why it didn't appear in the link those times, may have just been a fluke. But there doesn't seem to be any restriction from my experience. I also use the virtual card feature now and then, and in my case that's never been disrupted by the PC's. Although mine's still just a platinum. Course I seem stuck at $4500, so those of you with $5K+ limits may have better luck there.

My card started as a Platinum with a $39 fee, which it stayed until I wised up and had it changed a few years ago. First to a Quicksilver 1 with the same fee (which I was later able to have permanently removed via the executive office). After a year of that and discovering the upgrade link I jumped on the V1 offer. About 8 months later I used the link again and switched to the regular QS. 6 months after that the link didn't show any upgrade offers so I phoned them where they were able to see the V1 offer. Fast forward another 6 months, I reverted back the QS, again by calling after the link showed no offers. A little nutty, I know, but that's been my timeline.

Yes, in my experience at least. Not sure why the last 2 conversions weren't available via the link, but the phone reps were able to see the upgrade right away. May have just been a fluke. I don't get the sense that there's any restriction beyond the 6-month rule.

Overall, my timeline has gone

Platinum w/$39 fee > QS1 w/$39 fee > fee removed by exec office > V1 via link > QS via link > V1 via phone > QS via phone

Actually, it seems its certainly possible.

From the terms:

"Your Visa/MasterCard benefits may be changed. If so, materials will be sent with your new card. These benefits are separate from your Capital One Rewards program."

The only way those benefits change are if you get a network upgrade in the process. I'm going to take a shot and see what happens.

Mine has stayed a Platinum, but it's also seemingly capped at $4500. Would be interesting to find out if those of you over $5K get a status upgrade upon PC. Haven't seen any recent DP's on that.

I'll let you know in a week and a half or so (Cap cards take FOREVER to get to me).

Worst case scenario its still a Platinum but I got rid of the cheesy custom image design without playing the HUCA game.

I just looked at my year-end summary and I spent less than $150 on the card all of 2019 so even if I don't PC it back to the QS, I'm not really missing much. $2 a year in rewards is not worth worrying about.

For the Lender, as they can charge a higher swipe fee. But I don't see much of a difference for the User. TBH

VISA likes to really tout the concierge with the Siggy cards.

Capital One's Siggy book is 9 pages long while the Platinum is 5 so there's definitely a difference, I'm just not trying to read all that.

My Savor stayed WEMC when I made it a QS, fwiw.

If I needed an extended warranty on something and couldn't use an Amex, I'd actually go with my Costco card which is still a Visa Platinum. I PCed when the card was still at its $4600 SL.

I tried using the VS concierge once but they were useless. And VS used to offer Fandango discounts.

Some people here have booked luxury hotels with VS packages. Pricing can vary so much depending on prepaid vs. refundable, elite perks and points vs. not, upgrades, and packages with extras vs. just the room. Determining savings can be tricky.

Other than that, VS does seem to be a game more than a set of features people really use.

Capital One issues WEMC QS cards so its not at all abnormal that it stayed the same.

There's honestly a very small amount of belief that this is going to turn my card to WMC or WEMC but what it will definitely accomplish is getting rid of the custom design that I don't want anymore and also get rid of one of my last cards with raised numbers. Those are two things that bothered me about my QS so whatever happens with the network level, I'm fine.

I was able to PC my QS1 to V1 in November. It remained a platinum MC. SL at the time was 5k.

Nice! I know V1 is not the worlds greatest card, but I tell you what after staring at my QS1 for like 4 years it was a nice change of pace just to have a different card.
