I have been with USAA for about 10 years now and I don't remember they offer me any pre-qualification for credit cards.Even with high scores at the time (Before correction: EQ 722, EXP 780, TU 777) they rejected my application. It could be EQ at the time but I did submit a request to look into it but they said they closed the case and I have to reapply again through the chat. Since they rejected me 2 more times. For auto loan attempt for my first truck (2014), between these two scores (Aug 11, 2014) EQ 781, EXP 784, TU 779 and (Nov 22, 2014) EQ 814, EXP N/A, TU 781 they gave me ~13.49% APR and ~40K. I ended up with Chrysler with 3.25% APR with $68K loan. Even with long time auto insurance (recently increased by $20 with no derogatory on my driving records) and recent house insurance I still haven't receive any single credit card offer. I am thinking about switching to a different auto insurance and house insurance soon. Does anybody has any luck with USAA? Is there something I need to do? Thank you.

Thanks. Somehow it is getting to me whenever they rejected me with unreasonable reasons. However, you are right. They don't offer the best credit cards compare to NFCU and Amex. Right now they increased my auto insurance by claiming that one of the security subscription (UConnect) is ended which is weird. I did reapply that discount back but currently it is $10 higher. I have to call them to check if they could discount me further next week.

Even the 722 with Equifax is a score that is more often than not accepted - if they even pulled Equifax. But of course your FICO score is only one factor in granting credit. There must be someeting in your profile that somehow triggers them, but not other lenders. It's how Amex gives me a limit of 24,000 across 4 cards and Capital One gives me a limit of 1000 across 2 cards.

Hi, yes I think so too with the eq score. Even after a correction, sometime later and even further after the first app, I got rejected again and again. I remembered the score listed on the first rejection letter was before EQ correction because I requested a detail info. Not sure it was to but it doesnt match any of myfico scores. The next two letters were just a simple generic rejection. Anyway, yes since I have nfcu who needs usaa for cc. I am hoping to find new insurances too. Thanks for all you guys replies.

In my case they approved me for 2 cards 3-4 years ago, right at the beginning of my rebuild when my credit wasn't the best. I went on a very unplanned app spree one night and kept getting approvals, these 2 cards included. By the way, I do not recommend unplanned app sprees. After 8-10 yrs out of the credit game, approvals were like a drug and I couldn't stop, lol.

Anyway, my initial starting limits were $10k each and they have grown to $21k each through a few CLI requests. I will say I barely use these cards but I like them for utilization padding. They also make cash advances very easy and I've done that a few times, only when I know I can pay it back within a week or two. No fee to advance to your USAA acct then to transfer it immediately to another external acct. Available the next business day.

To provide DP's - I joined USAA through my Dad's membership. I am not a vet but he is. I only have these 2 cards and a savings acct with $25 in it with USAA. I have looked into other products but always find better rates elsewhere. No idea if I'm a "full" member or not??

That is strange that they've denied you for a CC with those scores and a clean profile. There is something in their algorithms that is causing this, but can't imagine what it is.

Their insurance rates can be higher than others, but they are generally regarded as one of the best out there as far as customer satisfaction and claims.

Their CC aren't really anything special, except for the Limitless, which was open for apps a few years ago and they only opened it by a few states at a time. It never made it to all of them (not mine 😭) before they closed it to new apps. It was a straight 2.5% cashback Visa with no FTF if you had direct deposit of $2k a month I think. What they have available now are kind of meh. IMO you aren't really missing out on anything, but can understand why your feelings are hurt a little 🤕

I know for partial members it can be darn near impossible. And for non members lol. Dont understand their exclusive mentality. They should let vets join imo but alas....i think you are good with Nsvy and other lenders

Agreed. Membership should be open to all Vets. Isn't that part of their historical mission? To serve those who served?

+1000000

Lol, how many active members even think about joining them or else. I know when i served i was a total noob and knew nothing about Credit Unions or banks that might be worth getting for future. Its a shame really

They were everywhere my first ship went. There was even a branch in Gaeta. Or Naples. Somewhere in Italy🤔

@digitek wrote:

I know right. It is just my OCD kicking in and my curiorisity. It feels like I am not squaring everything away after preparing everything according to the checklist before rolling out. After reading all this, I think I don't really missing anything from USAA. The insurance was good but not sure why recently they increased their rate and removed some discounts which I have to apply back. I am hoping tomorrow I can work something out with them to reduce it back to the original or at least they could tell me what's going on.
