AMEX Delta Gold Limit question

Is there anyone approved for the Amex Delta Gold that has gotten an opening limit over $2k. It seems there opening limits rang from $1-$2 thousand.

I got $20k on Delta Platinum around May/June 2019 (when I already had 4 other revolvers). I'm sure Delta Gold offers high limits for profiles that support them.

Most people apping for a Delta gold on here are using it as an in with amex. As such, scores tend to be lower and profiles dirtier.

Delta Blue draws some of that "get in with Amex" application traffic now as a no-AF card, though the card may not be as well-known as the Delta Gold is.

Also, applicants with higher incomes (meriting higher SLs) may tend to favor Delta Reserve or Delta Platinum for the added perks (ideal for their higher travel spend). Add in the Business versions, and the Delta Gold is relatively far down the list of attractive cards. So the card will get a relatively small share of higher spenders.

My Delta Gold was opened in November, 15 months after my first cards. It was my fourth Amex. At the time I had a Gold Amex from Sept. 18 and a Platinum and EveryDay Rewards from March 19. The ED had an initial limit of 8,000 and was 12,000 at that point.

The Delta Gold was issued with a $4000 limit. I got a Blue Cash Everyday a couple of days later with $3000 and a Cash Magnet with $5000 last week.

I don't think Amex buckets cards, but they're definitely sensitive to your credit when you apply. Once you are dealing with them they "reward" good behaviour.

I am pretty sure OP refers to a Very First AMEX card, which happens to be a Delta Gold, not the third or fourth AMEX.

In 2013 my first AMEX was the Delta Gold, for a $2k limit Several months later, within a year I applied for Delta Platinum and got a $10k starting limit on that Not My First AMEX Card.

How far along were you in your credit journey at that point? If you had other cards with higher liimits from other lenders that would indicate $2000 is a hard limiit

Like said before, most tend to be a first time app for AMEX revolvers like myelf so I got a peasly 1K SL. It has grown to 6K in the first year of just asking for CLIs when I can. It grows as you grow your score and establish credit. I'm sure if I asked for a card from AMEX now, it would be more in line with my 7K on my Disco and 6.8K CSP.

When it comes to AMEX SLs, I wouldn't be scared of low ones becasue they have a documented way to grow them. I never even used my Gold after the SUB other than a charge or two a month (it is my leave up at the bar card). It grew probably in line with my credit profile but also because I heavy spend on my Gold too.

The wife got $23,700 for a starting line on Delta Gold about 18 months after her first Amex (EveryDay), which had a disappointing and surprising starting line of only $2,000 but had grown to $40,000 after just 14 months prior to the Delta approval.

As Delta Gold is often an entry point to Amex due to relaxed underwriting, and with Platinum and Reserve offering a much better value, most Delta Gold approval data points here are going to be lower.

What determines a SL is your overall profile. Those receiving SL's in the 1k-2k range generally don't have a great profile or just their history too thin. There have been many who get better SL's with that card too based on factors in their profile.

My Delta Gold SL was $5K in 18, but it wasn't my first revolver with them. That was the BCE at $1,600 in 17. While my score was still over 700 I was new to them and a somewhat young/thin file, and a few paid collections at the time.

@drboxing As others have mentioned, the reason you see a lot of low limit Delta Gold cards is because of it being low hanging fruit for those with less than stellar credit. It helps to get one in the door sorta speak and it also helps when said person goes to app for other Amex cards as it *usually* is a SP on EX in regards to approval/denial.

Just to add to the point, I was just approved for my very first Amex card last week, the ED card. The ED card has no AF. Not the same as the delta gold, but a good Amex starter card. I've never had a relationship with Amex before now and they granted me a 25k sl. Just goes to show how much your profile has to do with Amex's starting limits. It seems unlikely to me that 2k would just be a standard sl.

It just all depend on your profile. I know a couple people who got approved for the Amex Delta Gold for over $8k for their first Amex card.

I have had an Amex charge card for 20+ years (Green for most of that time, recently PC'ed to Gold). Earlier this month, I snuck out of the garden to app for the Delta Gold because I was planning a rare-for-me Delta flight in a few months and the SUB would essentially cover the cost of that flight. It's my first non-charge card with Amex. I got instant approval with a 25k SL, based on just an SP. Amex has made a ton of money off me over the years, so one assumes they like ~~that~~ me.

I applied with less than 2 years credit history, 30k income, and was given an 8k limit. I do have an existing relationship with Amex so that probably helped.
