Finally Closing Credit Cards 2020

Been in a funk lately. Today was probably last straw. Tried to place a $280 order on Walmart.com , shipping was like $20, but these $#^$$ are trying to put like a $340 surcharges on my order.! I thought maybe it was temp but hit order button to test and yup, still there. I cancelled immediately. They definetly didnt do this last year when i ordered basically same stuff . Im not playing that game, im credit tired, credit poor and just well need to start the descent into normalcy.

I immediately canceled my Cap One Walmart store card , $15k limit. Didnt even care about the 208 points i lost. As soon as i see this order doesnt get charged to my Walmart MC, im closing that too. Im done with Walmart, dont support them, and even if i wanted to but something from them i could use other credit cards. I may just close Paypal Credit today too. Another account i dont use.

What surcharges could possibly add up to $340?

Regardless, do what you need to do. I have 5, maybe 6, that I'm preparing to close between now and July.

Thanks. Yeah just snother example of Walmart and their billions taking advantage of us here in PR. This was the kick i needed to start reducing. Im not even caring on open date. My Walmart originated with Sync and is one of my oldest cards but just one less account to manage.

Thanks @AllZero maybe it will help in 2 years having less inquiries and less credit . I achieved roughly about $238k on less than $25k income so not to bad lol.

Eek! I'd close too if I'd had this experience. You gotta do what you gotta do. I'd also love to know what kind of item could trigger such surcharges. It just seems absurd!

And I'll say, that is one impressive overall credit limit!

That sucks AJC - I don't blame you a bit. You definitely have better cards in your arsenal that you can use. And it wouldn't surprise me if trimming the extras helps you down the line with apps and CLIs. You've done amazingly well in building up and this may help you continue that with lenders that are better too

Same question, and then, if you were able to buy it in a Walmart store in PR, would it not carry the same surcharge?

Seems like a good move to close the card. I'm also trying to cut down on the duplications and not-really-useful cards.

@AverageJoesCredit How many of your cc's are mastercard? Don't close just yet.....I screwed the pooch when I got mad (angry) like a dog and closed both Disco's and two of my cap1 plus a Comenity Mastercard Ultamate. Hmmp, I fixed their little, red wagons- NOT. I fixed my little, red wagon with gum, feathers and tar.

Have a cooling off period.....they made us all mad (angry) at how you were treated but was it the fault of a third party perhaps? Cap1 doesn't know all that mess going on. All they know is your income and that you have a SWEET credit limit that they aren't batting an eye at.

Take some time before giving your oldest tl the axe. Besides, you can buy gas with that badboy and gum, feathers, and tar.

Sorry to hear about this. Gotta be honest, I'm enjoying having only 4 cards right now. I'll get up to 5 in a few months with my 91/3 second NFCU, and then merge my two Discovers at the end of the year and be back down to 4. A new car, hopefully a student loan refi and then planning to garden for 2 years when AMEX becomes an option due to time following BK. I was only at 8 cards, but I was starting to get annoyed with keeping an eye on all of them.

I avoid support Walmart for a myriad of reasons, and this story does not surprise me. However, it’s always a good feeling to close a card that’s not doing anything for you, hope you feel better soon.
