I don't know what the absolute lowest would be (other than zero, of course), but many CUs offer as low as 5-7% to their best customers. You're pretty unlikely to see rates anywhere near that low with a major bank card.

Credit unions consistently seem to offer the lowest and best interest rates on their credit cards. The big creditors like Amex, Chase, Citi, Discover, Capital One and BOA don't offer rates as low as credit unions. I will always get an auto loan from a credit union. They always offer that lowest interest rates on auto loans too.

That's pretty pitiful for requiring a $10K relationship to get it to begin with.

The turn off for me was 10%/$50 minimum payment. I figured there had to be more hoops which is why I opted out of making a thread about it when I found it like a week ago.

I did actually find out that I can get into Space Age but I am not sure that they would give me the 4.75% card since they assign you a card based on your credit at either 14.9%, 8.25%, or prime. Not worth a trip out of the garden.

My local CU offers a rewards Visa as low as 7.90%. That's going to be the card that gets me out of the garden in April. Been with them for over 30 years, had multiple car loans and a mortgage through them, so I anticipate it'll be a good one to pick up.

I'll agree that CU's often have the lowest rate for Credit Cards. My local CU lowest rate is/was 6.50%, unfortunately when I applied I only qualified for the 9.5%. Which is still decent compared to almost every other CC I have. If I thought for sure I'd qualify for the lowest I'd throw them a HP to do so, would be a nice rate for short term personal loans. But CU's like to HP you for almost everything.

What i like about them is that you can transfer your CL to checking anytime with no fee, just the same standard APR as purchases etc.

So if you have a high CL, you can borrow from it whene er you need funds without incurring a HP like you do with a Loan.

Though from what I've seen in the real world, the people who would benefit most from the lowest rate often do not qualify for it.

Depends on the product, but in my own experience NFCU gave me the lowest APR available for two CCs and a CLOC, while PenFed gave me the lowest APR for an auto loan refi and just slightly above the floor on CCs. Both have their strengths and weaknesses depending on the lending product, and other CUs can be just as low if not better.

The best I got is my CSEFCU card at 8.25%, fixed too. Its a rewards card also, 1pt for every dollar spent. Comes out to 1%. I don't use it for that.

Sometimes, when I carry a balance for a few months, I'll use a rewards card to carry it until the 1st statement is cut. Then before they start charging interest, I'll BT from there to CSEFCU card. I don't get charged a BT fee either.

I think its my most important card imo.

When I had funeral expenses last Summer, I lost my entire savings and then had to put the rest on a card and carry a balance for four months.

That's the perfect tool for that situation
