Just became a member of my employers credit uion. I am told this is a closed credit union thus much better benefits. So I asked about credit cards and interest rate. Was told with my my fico credit of 785 I would qualify for a card at 9.65% interest with no annual fee. I don't know that correlation holds up to scrutiny. Certainly other cards offer superior benefits to the ones listed -- for instance, NFCU Platinum offers an optimum APR of 7.49%. The rewards cards are superior as well.

Many of the lending choices are subjective -- if you're happy with John Deere's employee CU, then great. But know that doesn't make it the best.

I am a Member and have had a Visa card for years Currently 8.75% (Membership is very restricted)

I know there is a guy with a Wells Fargo card @ 6.99%

Probably a few posters with knock it dead APR's

I don't live or work in those area's. I am a CSFA Member for many years.

ETA: They have loosened up a bit on who can join ..from years ago.

Credit Unions tend to have lower APR than regular banks/lenders.

SFFCU appears to have a SSL too. Not sure if it's like Navy with prepayment.

Secured (Savings or Certificate) Loans

Payment Example - Savings Secured: A loan amount of $3,000 for 60 months at 3.1% APR (savings rate + 3%) would have a monthly payment of $54.05. Other rates and terms are available.

I have had my first CC for 11 years. a wellsfargo platinum 6% apr and 21,700 cl.

it is nice to have but it sets you up to get compfortable running a balance.

Not what you want to do with CC's.

OP, it is good to hear that you are pleased with your employer's credit union.

I joined my employer's credit union when I was first hired and found it was more restrictive and had more fees and higher fees than most of the big banks. I kept my DDA there until I moved it to NFCU. Every FI has its positives and negatives, we just got to find what works for us.
