Before going to bed last night, I ordered a big box of replacement water filters on Amazon. It was after midnight early on April 1, so I went onto BofA's website and moved my new WWF Cash Rewards card from Travel (Uber Eats) to Online Shopping as the chosen category. I designated the card as my method of payment, bought the filters, and went to bed. The estimated arrival date was April 22, which Amazon said took into account high demand for higher-priority products. Not a problem for me...I could wait a few weeks.

In the morning I saw a card-not-present transaction alert for my Chase Hyatt card. BofA declined the charge, as they did when I tried to add the card to my Uber profile on the 28th or so and when I tried to add it to Apple Pay. I had managed to use the physical card at Costco on the 31st so I figured it didn't have any security issues remaining. Even though I've had other "default payment option" cards on Amazon and haven't used Hyatt there in ages, Amazon somehow picked the Hyatt card to charge.

I was a little bummed that I'd be earning Hyatt points (of which I do not need any more!) instead of 5.25% cash back, so I briefly thought about cancelling the order and placing a new one. After all, it wasn't supposed to arrive for three weeks. I looked at the filter page...and saw they were now totally sold out and didn't know when they would be getting more. The estimated delivery for my order is still April 22.

So I guess I'll be leaving the order in place and taking those Hyatt points after all! I do hope the BofA declines stop, though.

It's been a few years since I've tried to change the payment method on an existing order.

I don't want to involve a human because a human might do something weird (like cancel the order in its entirety). While I can buy the filters elsewhere with a similar delivery time, I got a pretty good volume discount from Amazon I don't want to lose.

I think once they actually charge the card, you cannot change the payment method. That's only for pending orders i believe.

You might check to see if all the info for the BoA card is up to date though, if something if off Amazon will change to another card in the lineup. If everything is accurate, then the issue has to be on BoA's end. I would probably call them and inform them that your card keeps getting declined at *locations*, and if it continues then there's no use in keeping said card.
