I just noticed that CapOne is offering an upgrade on my QS card, but I'm not seeing the point of accepting the upgrade. Both have no AF, but the QS gets 1.5% while VO gets 1.25pts.

I don't really use my QS because I'm bucketed to subprime with it since it was my first card; I just keep it for credit age and use better cards. That being said, I'm wondering if anyone can make a compelling argument that I missed as to why the VO would be an offer worth taking.

If there's value I'm missing, I'll gladly listen.

I say Quiksilver over Venture..Btw Your card probably is not In the Bucket. You most likely dont put Heavy spend on that card and thats why its not gonna grow i noticed From Data points when you first get a Qs or better its best to make it your Daily Driver for 3 to 6 months and the the flood gates open most people with High limits from (Growth) actually use their card as a daily Driver

I can't make an argument for why you should upgrade. I can just say I had the same choice and took the upgrade from QS 1 to Venture 1. Why? I'm trying to build that card to a higher limit and, eventually, I hope to upgrade to Savor (or qualify for a Savor card on a new app). I didn't want to refuse the upgrade and have capital one think I was ungrateful. I have absolutely no data to suggest they would see it that way. It was just superstition I think. Since then I have gotten some better cards in my wallet (including starting my relationship with NFCU, a high limit VISA Signature from Wells Fargo, and Amex Gold). Still, I keep using my Venture One as a daily use card on which I put a fair amount of spend because I want to see if they'll give me another big CLI when I'm eligible in a couple months. If so, great. If not, I'll probably stop using it as my daily driver.

This is impossible with Chase UR (everything that lets you do that is $95 AF and up), for Amex it's the Amex Everyday or Blue, Citi it's the Rewards+.

It's not great value vs. a QS given that your transfer value is less than a mile a point for most partners (.9375 for the 1.5/2 ones, .625 for the 1:2 ones) but given that C1 is a little looser than Amex or Citi there is a niche case for it.

I might do something similar (PC downgrade Venture->VentureOne to dump the annual fee) if C1 won't waive my Venture annual fee this upcoming year or give a retention offer that pencils out, because I now have AMEX Green (I really don't NEED the Venture for anything now that I have an in with AMEX on their charge cards; I have Visa Signature on a different keep forever no-AF card... but the five digit C1 overall tradeline is something I definitely want to keep), and I have a QS MC already (so don't need two of them)- will probably reallocate most of my credit limits over to the QS to see if C1 will give me a MC World Elite on the QS (it's my only MC, so having access to the MC hotel program would be nice), downgrade the VentureOne Visa to a lower CL and settle for Visa Platinum or whatever they hand out.

I lose the cool metal card but oh well. It's just not worth $95 a year if I get everything++ I'd get on a Venture from Amex Green.

There are a lot of very pragmatic people in this thread telling certain truths, such as there being no real upgrade in rewards. You can choose to look at it strictly from a practical sense, but the fact that you're asking despite this information already being made available on Capital One's website leads me to believe that you may be considering the upgrade for other reasons.

The Venture One has made more than one list of cards identified for giving generous limits. While it's no CSP/CSR, it's also not a subprime product. Now, whether this is the same case for internal or external applicants has yet to be researched and quantified, but, It's a hell of a step up looking from the outside in as an external applicant, in terms of how hopeful one can be to get a substantial credit line.

A true product change doesn't initiate a soft pull. If they're turning a blind eye to your reports while offering an upgrade, I would assume this does not automatically come with a CLI.

*HOWEVER*

If you are planning on pushing Capital One for a CLI, then yes, for goodness sake do it while holding a Venture One, and not a Quicksilver. The product change is only a small part of positioning yourself in a favorable light to be considered for a generous CLI, this piece being largely vanity. The numbers side of things comes into play when you start grooming for a CLI and concentrate your spending on the new card to flag yourself as being intent on really flexing your credit line.

Being that it's not a new account is good, no INQ, no hit to AAoA. As long as you're aware that the PC itself won't net you anything, and that it will still likely take some concentrated spend to get them to pony up a CLI (we are talking about Capital One after all) I would be content knowing you're at least making an informed decision. Neither good nor bad, just exercising personal preference.

Thanks so much for this post. I just checked the upgrade link today and I qualified to upgrade my QS of 7 years to the Venture One as well. I have received no cli on this card during this time. I didn't accept the offer yet as I can not see the value in the card at this time. I need to do more research to weigh the benefits.
