Discover Verification

Hello everyone, Hope your days are well.

I am checking to see if anyone has gone through a verification by Discover. Let me explain, I was entering my account this morning with a note about fraud and not being able to access account and to call a certain number. Called to find out that this is not actually fraud but instead a verification to see if all the information on my account is legit. So at this point I am confused. The Customer Service Rep continued to explain that Discover will do this every once in a while and I may not have gone through this before, I guess something like an audit of accounts. And also I need to sign a form from the IRS 460 something T. Has this happened to anyone before?

If you're referring to the 4506-T form, a plethora of members have encountered it.

Thank you ClassicMan however I understand about the IRS form (couldn't remember number). I am interested in this Discover verification which was not explained very well.

Is this a secured credit card? Over the last few months, Disco has been asking for a 4506-T. No one knows why. The most common conclusion was that applicants may have either embellished their income or included their spouse/family member/fiance's income and it triggered something in Disco's algorithm. But we still dont know the real reason why this is happening all of a sudden.

I have not gone through such a verification however from other stories here I will guess there is something in your credit report that is raising concerns at Discover.

Was there any fraud alert on your credit file?

Any ID theft in the past?

Change of address due to you moving recently?

Any odd features of your address?

Any name changes through your credit history?

These are only a start. Contact Discover and go through the 4506-t and other verification to get it resolved. There is something there they need more info to match your identity.

Yes. My anniversary for having the card was this month. Had card for several years. And I do not pad pay.

Most of the incidents of them requesting the 4506T were newer accounts, it's weird that you would get one on an account that's aged 2-3+ years

Anything else going on possibly on your side? Like have you changed your spend/payment/carrying balances outside of "normal" ?

I'm not sure what pad pay is, but the next thing that comes to mind is whether someone has managed to get log in access to your Discover account.

Again, I suggest you respond to the request for information and documents to ensure Discover knows you are you, and doesn't presume someone else is you. This is not a walk away moment.

I have had fraud with my SS# when someone tried filing taxes with my number. I believe this may be what is triggering this since the fraud happened during the time slot that they are requesting on this form. Otherwise it may be the alert on Equifax.

This is why you are most likely getting this request. Hsving someone try and use your ss can be a headache and Disco wants to make sure it you. This is a case i can see doing the 4506 for your account protection.

I haven't kept up with that thread, but has that been a common factor or just spit balling ideas? Planning on moving soon and for stuff like this, I was considering not messing with the address. Wasn't considering any problems with it since the property is my brothers and family will still be living here. But definitely little paranoid now that not doing it could trigger it and then doing it could too!

I talked to someone at Discover in the Verification area that gave me a little more information. This is Discover keeping their records clear on who their customers are and making sure they are legit. Read the thread a little more and you can see what I mean. It has everything to do with making sure all of your information is correct with Uncle Sam!! And is totally random.

The years that were requested also are random so make sure your filing tax files are in order if this ever happens.

This is asinine honestly. They should be required to take the most recent year at a minimum. I filed this year just because of requests like this but as a SSDI recipient, I have no legal requirement to file my taxes and haven't done so since I got it in 2014.

Your situation may be a little different if you are on SSDI however, you may never need verification. I have no idea of what triggers these verifications.

Yeah I would be pretty ticked if they demanded a 4506-T from me and wouldn't pull the current year transcript. I'm honest about my source of income being SSDI when the form asks though and it's the exact dollar amount I get but I'm not aware of a public system that allows one to check how much SSDI a person gets. I guess we will see. I have my award letters for 2020, 2019, and 2018 and I filed taxes this year. I have done what I can and I'm not going to worry about it.

Hi, I am in the same exact situation as you right now. This process started on March 16th. I was told to sign a DocuSign and it would be resolved within 7 to 10 days. Fast forward to today... still nothing I am being told it is because the IRS is taking longer than expected to complete verification. I cannot use my card, log in or use mobile app. I am being told this is due to Income Verification even though my app tells me something different. I am beyond upset and this close to closing my account(s). This is my first credit card and I feel it would be bad to just throw in the towel. I have had nothing but good things to say about Discover but this is really upsetting me that they would do this in such a time. I will update with any news they may provide to me, but I may just call in and close my accounts before that time.

I have gone past being upset. This is ridiculous however, it does look out for the person being verified and Discover as well. a person would think that because of the situation at hand (corona-v), that a Manager would delay or at least try verification another way. "makes you wonder how we keep from going under" sorry just a little happiness from my time. If you think you're upset, my card is over 3yrs. Honestly, I think something is happening with Discover. Sometimes miracles lurk in murky waters, it may be a benefit ahead. stay strong Oh and by the way, I just paid my card to "0".
