I am so mad at AMEX!

I applied for an Amex Green a month ago during my app spree see earlier post in approvals I didn't list it because I did not get a decison. I get a letter saying we need a bankletter head I called my bank and they said we don't give those out. I then called New Accounts @ Amex and they basically said well then the application will be canceled unless we get this. I went to a Chase branch who I have a heloc and used to have a checking account with. The guy was super nice gave me a thing that had everything Amex wanted so I sent it. I was then told it is not acceptable and that's all they can do. I am livid! What type of stupid verifaction is this... I also asked if my application canceled well I have to provide this is I applied in like 2 years or next year basically whenever I stop gardening. Anyone know the answer to this? Also has this happened to anyone recently? I wasted a HP and on Experian the one that everyone tends to pull for me.

What did they claim they needed the bank letterhead for? I've never been asked for any documents from AMEX.

Verifaction is all they told me. I told them I have a driver's lisence bills etc they would not budge.

Dang, sorry that happenend. Never been asked a letterhead before from them.. there definitely should have been some other means of verification

@Rudy1 when you say "Bank letterhead", what kind of content are they expecting?

Letterhead is just a letterhead, so it would probably help if you could clarify what was requested.

Was it something from the bank stating you have an account with them or something else?

Sounds like AMEX address verification. They will only take the bank letter and are not flexible.

OP, who do you currently bank with?

All banks and CUs have notaries (if they let you in the branch), and they could type and notarize whatever you need on their letterhead.

I was asked for a bank letterhead that contains: My home address, the banker's name,title,hours,and signature,confirmation of my address,main number to the branch, an extension to the banker if applicable. It had everything on it but it also had a little thing about my HELOC but Amex said that was ok. Amex needed it to be from a branch cause they had to call the banker so I had to go to some bank I have at least some type of account with.

This happened with one of my brothers when he tried to apply to Amex. Basically they want the bank to state in that letter your address and that you have an account with them.

My brother didn't complete this process as he is abroad. He got the HP and didn't pass verification. He's too lazy for this CC stuff.

I did have a verification with Amex but i didn't reach Step 2: Bank Letterhead. I was lucky to be approved on the 3 way call between a Citi rep, Amex rep and me. They asked my bank rep if i had an acct with them, what was my address, and for how long i had the acct.

But if you're not lucky to get a Bank rep inmediately over the phone they pass you to another level of verification that is the letterhead.

Detur, that is so me I am like at the line with AMEX and will just let it close. I am too worried about what is going on in the world right now my daughter is a nurse. I would rather they just cancel my app I have not intention of walking into a branch. I'm trying not to go anywhere other than food.

This happened to a friend of mine. He provided the letter and there was no problem. I’m wondering why the letter you got from Chase was unacceptable.

My primary bank closed all branches temporarily due to COVID-19. It would be a trip if a cc issuer wanted this now. I have banking relationships elsewhere but have not checked if branches are open. The primary bank will allow safe box access by appointment with a banker.

The content Amex wanted could be difficult now if branches are closed and they want to phone the banker who signed the letter. I wonder why a copy of the bank statement would not suffice?

I find it so weird they asked you for something so specific, cause I'm sure they can get the same info with a bank statement from an active checking account.

Did you move recently? This seems like something along the lines of the address you app'd with not lining up with the CRA's and they're making sure there's no ID theft going on. It seems that a lot of FI's are using Lexis Nexus for info verification so this may be another place to check your reports at.

Look, if i would be asked for a letterhead pre or post covid here's what i would do.

I would email directly my personal banker. Fill him up with the situation, explain/state to him/her what Amex wants to see, and i would ask first my banker to call Amex. If he/she tried to call and couldn't get anyone then i tell him/her to send the letter and send it to me so i can send it.

i then would speak to a CSR about it.
I understand not wanting to do all of this, it's a lot of work, specially now. If there was no covid , if i sent the email and by any chance my banker didn't reply, i would go in branch and ask the branch manager for his letter. Maybe that he/she does the 3 way call while i'm on the bank.

When i applied the same representarive when i called into new accounts was the one i had the call with and the one who completed my app. She said i had been approved for 10k, i thanked her and also told her that was a bit low for me. She told me that she would make a note in my acct so i would be eligible for a cli earlier, or have a good note of Amex upping my limit. I applied for the 3X cli and 30k approved! Long way from verification and pending on the phone not knowing if i was going to really get approved. Amex and citi rep that i got on the phone were extremely friendly/helpful. Call was in Spanish which is my native language to possibly avoid some missunderstandings.(but i speak English native, it was just for this particular call just in case)

I had to do the same thing. They want on bank letterhead: your name and address and that you have an account in good standing with them. They also wanted the bank representative's business card copied onto the letterhead so they can call them and verify that they are the ones that did it. Then you need to ask the bank rep to fax it to the number they gave you.

Also I was able to do all of this by calling my local branch so you should be able to do all of this over the phone.

I myself have never heard of this from Amex. I never knew this was even a thing with them, when I applied for my first Gold Card, I was approved instantly, sounds like Amex is having you jump through some hoops to get a card.
