AMEX EveryDay Preferred 25K MR Points Upgrade Offer

My EveryDay card has been relegated to the sock drawer for a while now since my Gold card pretty much covers every benefit and more. I was scrolling through the Offers and Benefits tab today and noticed this offer: Earn a bonus of 25K MR points when you upgrade to the EveryDay Preferred and spend $2,000 within the first ~~three~~ SIX months.

I checked to see if the welcome SUB for app'ing for a new card was comparable but it's actually lower @ 10K MR points. Is this a good offer or should I pass and wait for an elevated Welcome SUB?

If you find a referral link, you can a 30k points sub for the cards, at least as of ladt week.

Thanks...Yes it's still there but for 5K less points.. I'd rather upgrade.

30k is the largest SUB I have seen for actually applying for an EDP. So honestly, a 25k upgrade offer with no new account required seems like a pretty good deal and likely the best that would be offered.

Yeah I haven't seen the 30K offer in a while, so 25K/$2K is not a bad way to go.

Congrats on the upgrade offer, that's pretty solid. 25K MR is good any time and well in excess of the annual fee.

For what it is worth: I initially applied for the preferred card in early 2017. Downgraded in mid 2018, and I had this offer. I didn't see anything about having a SUB prior on the preferred card.

I got the offer as well, and I think I'm also going to take it. The annual fee on my Gold comes due in May/June so the timing is actually pretty good. I'll be prepared to close my Gold (I don't think a downgrade to Green would be worth it, still need to do some math on that) although if they throw some MRs at me to keep the Gold I might consider it. I'll have to give that some thought.

Does the benefit of the new card gets immediate use for the everyday preferred as you're waiting for the new card to arrive? I also got the upgrade offer as well, and I'm going to upgrade. 6 months is really good, and it gives me enough time. If it was only 3 I don't think I could do it, I love Amex!

I am struggling with this offer. 25k MR is nice, but I can't imagine swiping this 30 times a month. Lots of things will change after this pandemic, stockpiling MR seems a risky proposition at this point in time.

@Anonymous bro, I thought the same thing. What I do is I buy everything individually. Like yesterday, I ordered 3 things from Amazon. I usually buy it in bulk tho like all in once package. When I'm at the gas station, I usually pay $25 all in one sitting,but now I'm going to swipe it 5x just sitting there and I do it at night so nobody is around lol 😂

Definitely understand your point about the risk of stockpiling MR. In my case, I have the option of cashing out my MR points @ 1.25% with my Schwab Plat as a last resort.

I took the upgrade as well. While I don't know how I'll eventually use the MRs, since I already have 174k of them you might say I'm somewhat invested, LOL.

Now I only have to decide what to do with the Gold. I have until June to figure that out. 🤔
