The answer is going to depend on:

How much you spend across various "categories"?

How much traveling you do?

For example, Chase Hyatt is a great card. For a $95 annual fee, you get a free weekend night. And if you put $15,000 of spending on the card, you get a second free weekend night (in addition to 15,000 points which itself is good for a third night). But that's only worth it if you travel and can use those nights.

That said, since sign up bonuses (SUBs) are almost always much more lucrative than base rates, maximizing SUB spend will maximize rewards if you travel. The price is a bit of study about the various point systems and their transfer partners.

OK...I'll bite....favorite cards to me

1) Chase Amazon Prime....what I like about it...5% rewards with Amazon, being disabled I use Amazon a lot.

2) American Express blue cash preferred...what I like about it...a lot, but 6% rewards for groceries to start...add to that, there are actually real, and sometimes useful partner offers that can save you even more, and some can even be used more than once. Also the customer service is better than most, but to be honest it has been fairly good on many cards I hold. Also the ability to add AU to the card with limits I contol is great. I can easily go online to set or change the AU limit, or even freeze and un-freeze it. My Neice has been doing my grocery shopping so I added her with a 400 dollar limit, and I help with her groceries as well while her and her husband are out of work due to Covid-19.

3) State Farm Visa Signature....3% rewards for insurance, and the highest credit limit I ever received to start.

4) HSBC cash rewards....This one is temporarily this highly ranked unti the 3% cash back for 12 months expires.

5) Citi Double Cash....2% cashback rewards (1+1) which is a little different.

After these there is a bunch of 1.5% cash back cards with Capital One Quicksilver my favorite among them due to the rewards redemption not requiring a minimum redemption. That comes in handy when there is a small balance that there is enough in the rewards to cover. I usually would wait till there was 25 dollars otherwise. After that the rest are somewhat equal until Barclaycard which I don't like much at all. Pulling up at the rear of the pack is that TD cash rewards card...1% cash back, lousy website layout, does not play well with Quicken, below average CSR...and the list of what I do not like about that card is long. It will eventually be closed due to non-use, because I have not used it even once in over a year. I am a little surprised it is still open, and might should just close it myself, but it has no annual fee so I have a hard time closing any card with no annual fee. Also not a real fan of my BoA cards, Wells Fargo card, or US bank Quicken. Discover It card would be very lowly regarded if not for the fact that they supply a free experian fico 08 score to everybody, even non-customers. That was a nice thing to do. It is my lowest credit limit by a lot with only 6200 limit. All cards except those top 5 are pretty much sock drawer cards and see little use. Nearly every one of them were obtained due to attractive SUB, but after extracting the SUB, there is always a higher reward from another card in my wallet. To be honest, none of them really deserve to be trashed, it is just that I have no reason to use them when a higher reward card is in my wallet. TD bank...1% cash back, really? They need to step up their game, because a flat 1% is pathetic for a premium card. All my cards are considered premium cards, with no store cards and only the Blue Cash Preferred having a fee, but they gave me a 300 dollar bonus to PC to it from Blue Cash Everyday card without even a hard pull. It is a close call as to whether the Preferred gets enough extra rewards to pay the AF, but I think it does by a little, and will check to be sure soon. The 300 dollar bonus to PC to it made it a no-brainer. Being disabled, I never travel, so those really good travel cards are not good for me.

BoA Premium Rewards. Even getting to the Platinum level of preferred rewards (>$50k in assets), you can get 3% cashback on travel/dining with a 2.25% baseline on everything else. Platinum Honors gives 3.5% and 2.65%, respectively. Couple that with the $100 airline credit, and the card pays you $5 to use it. I'm looking forward to getting myself to the top of the preferred rewards scale.

Work towards getting by improving credit scores for.

I don't have a single one of these cards.

I only have one on that list ....

For a simple 4-card, no AF, cash back wallet for beginners, I always recommend:

Citi Double Cash (2% on everything)

Amex Blue Cash Everyday (3% groceries)

Wells Fargo Propel (3% on gas, restaurants, travel, transit, streaming)

Discover (5% on rotating categories; 10% in year one with matching)

You could replace Discover (or augment it) with Chase Freedom and/or US Bank Cash+ which offer 5% quarterly categories.

If this AOD 3% card turns out to be legit, you could replace the first three and have a 2-card wallet. But I have a feeling that card will be more difficult to get than the list above. Further, the cards above are a good sampling of major lenders which is a plus for the credit score.

From there, you could optimize. If you use Amazon a bunch, get the Chase Amazon Prime card for 5% there, etc.
