Random $30 Discover cash back, "Everywhere Else"?

Hey all,

I got my most recent statement from Discover; I noticed my cashback balance was more than doubled. Under the Cashback bonus rewards section, It says "Everywhere Else +$30.57." This section in previous bills only showed "5% cashback bonus +$x.xx", or "1% cashback bonus." I have never seen this "everywhere else" language, and I definitely do not have the spend to warrant the extra cashback. It is definitely reflected on my main account though. Looking at the the discover calendar and tracker, the $30 is not shown anywhere. Just my regular 5% and 1% spend.

Any ideas? I was planning to cash out soon, and I don't want to risk AA for this. I don't mind contacting them to remove it.

Did you ever PC the card from the chrome? After I did that, it changed all of my old cashback into "everywhere else".

No, it has always been the regular IT 5%er.

But now that you bring that up, I actually took a 15 month 0APR offer and carried a balance for about 10 months. Since about September though, I have been PIF as normal. The 0APR offer technically ended in March...

I wonder if they witheld cashback due to my balance? I tend to double check these things tho; I'm highly certain they did not skimp me, I remember getting the cashback for my humungo purchase. But discover doesnt make it easier to track either.

Is your Discover IT card relatively new? I know they automatically match all the Cash Back you earned at the end of your first year. Maybe what you are seeing is the match?

If not, then I don't know.

So to clarify, you've not made any purchases on It for the past 15 months, only carried a BT balance? If so you probably shouldn't have any CB available, mine doesn't. At 5% you would have had to make a $611.40 dollar purchase to have a CB balance of $30.57.

If you're that concerned over it call them, otherwise just wait until the next statement to see if it's still there. Could be a glitch and will take care of itself.

I did not BT, I had 0APR on purchases. I had one large purchase I paid off in 10 months. I continued to use my card for general spend all the while. Since September I have still been using the card, and back to PIF, even though the 0APR did not run out until March.

I reached out, they said it "was based off some missing transactions in your account notes." I didnt press for more info; but I guess I had some missing cashback along the way. It was definitely not earned in 2020. I'm glad they caught it I guess, but I wish their tracker could show itemized points earned. It seems kinda strange.

That is rather interesting because I do not keep tack of Discover, so a person could literally have points from several years ago that never posted. lol
