That's a bureau decision. Experian chooses to date an account by the first day of the month it is opened. If you open a card July 1, on August 1 it will reflect as a month old. If you open it July 31, on August 1 it will reflect as a month old. It's just how they do things.

As for whether you can play that angle toward an in with banks, maybe. Chase almost always double-pulls, using EQ as a secondary bureau, and especially on a young/thin profile, so if the year of history is important enough to them, your EQ timeline will undo the attempt.

Getting a card from Chase is usually a little more involved than just hitting that year mark. A lot will depend on your overall profile and which card you are trying to get.

Chase is very unlikely to be the first lender to give you the required $5000 CL for a Signature card. They usually let someone else do it first and see how you handle it. Just keep that in mind.

Pulls may vary by geography. In 6 credit requests (5 applications and one CLI) in NY and CA I've gotten 6 EX HPs and 1 on TU. The TU was a NY CLI. But I know some others get EQ pulled.

I wouldn't challenge the idea of "one year". Wait a bit for a proper year.

YMMV though on how much history you need. I got a Freedom as my first credit of any kind, but I was a Chase checking/savings customer and the SL was only $600. I got a $7500 CSP at 14 months.

You do not need to have a $5000 credit limit to get a Chase Amazon Prime Visa signature. All Chase Amazon Prime Visa are signature if you have Prime and are approved. Even $500 limits. When i was approved for mine i had a $1500 limit. Its not like normal signature cards.

Also had a 5-month old $4.5k Sallie Mae. Chase checking/savings balances were maybe $10k. I don't recall the income I used on the app (it varies and I try to be conservative in case I have to prove it) but probably mid 5 figures. No special treatment for once having investments there (that didn't emerge until later).

No pandemic or massive spike in unemployment, either. Lender risk appetite is not constant.

One issuer may round everything up to the nearest month while another may not round. So you are better off waiting for your best chance!
