They told me it was temporary when they took the ability to combine away. They then told me it was only available if my accounts were eligible and only then would I see the option. Now they finally tell the truth..." we have no idea, it was taken away to be updated and never returned."

Anyone here have any inside information with this one? I would really love to get rid of one of my CapOne cards but it's too valuable with age and limit.

Card combination went away over a year ago. The CSRs likely don't know anything more than we do about it returning. CapOne seems to like to do things that are counterproductive for borrowers (no combinations, no limit reallocations, big spend for crappy CLIs, inferior rewards, prequals only for subprime cards, triple HPs for cards that aren't anything special, etc) so I'd be surprised if it did come back.

For the general consumer the 3 pulls is probably not a big deal as they are not constantly applying for cards. I'm not a huge Capital One fan (just don't find any of their cards super attractive) but I don't think the triple pull is a big deal for the vast majority of the population. Most Capital One cards are IMO fairly average and you can get similar rewards on other cards, but it doesn't make them horrible.

As far as combining, I don't see it coming back. Again, the average customer isn't likely using the feature, and I think the only ones using it are creating huge limit cards that Capital One does not want to offer.

One size doesn't fit all. One issuer may be a good fit for one person and not another. I'd agree with the post preceding mine that C1 is average-ish but not terrible- if you don't care about the triple pull, combining cards, etc (classic "I'm playing the myFico game at high level" stuff that 90%+ won't remotely care about). I didn't care about a triple pull because I'm in post--Ch. 13 rebuild anyways, and Chase/Citi/US Banks/Wells Fargo/conservative-ish underwriting where i am a new guy walking in off the street won't touch me until the BK falls off in two years. A subprime lender and extra red marks on applications is fine.

(FWIW, Synchrony rejected me early on, C1 took me, presumably because I had past history with C1 up until my Ch. 13 and a perfect payment record. The PPMC in my profile is very recent.)

Lol, tell me again why everyone wants a Cap One card?

You mean like putting a 3% international transaction fee on their cards?

Oh, wait, sorry, I got Capital One confused with Chase Freedom and Citi Double Cash cards.

And yeah, it sucks that their Quicksilver is 1.5% cash back, so terrible- oh, wait, my bad, I mean the same as the Chase Freedom Unlimited. Or the BECU cashback card.

I'm not gonna argue they're perfect but I'd take a C1 QS card any day over a number of ones issued by my local credit unions (I actually checked, outside of BECU they're mostly hot garbage). The app is slick. The Venture isn't a bad premium travel card (it beats my CU's premium card around the head and shoulders).

myFico is full of nth degree optimizers who are all trying to push the edges so of course a card issuer that's just OK-ish is going to lose, but C1 is fine for what it is.

Haha no hold on, let me clarify. So I just got the Navy with a great APR and I know based on everyone here that it will grow quite large. That being said I don't NEED the QS any longer but I don't want to just throw the limit away, it's pretty decent for my profile $7500. CapOne held me down back when I was trapped in SL hell, so they will always have a special place in my heart (wallet)!

At some point ,once I can get the Chase/WF/Citi/BofA/US Bank stuff and can continue to diversify lenders/tweak my card set like myFICOers do , I'll shut one down and have the option to come back for another Venture SUB or something.

I'm still looking for a 2% CB no-FTF, no-AF, no "please join our CU and keep $500 on deposit or direct deposit", no "we'll close you account at a drop of a hat" unicorn- PPMC is closest to what I want at the moment, and my plans are not to start trying for huge CLs with them- my current CL of $6400 would work just fine for what I want indefinitely (I can put USD spend on a DIFFERENT 2% card, my Fidelity Visa, which is a forever card for me).

Synch does tend to let people with less than perfect credit in the door (I don't think any lender is especially BK friendly ATM) so I was comparing apples to apples. Cap One does tend to be solid for dependability, but how many people are getting AA on $3500 CL's sans recent derog's from any lender? This is about where the bucketed cards begin to stall out most of the time from what I've read on here.

Everyone's needs and profiles are different. If Cap One works well enough for you, then it's good that you have that relationship with them. They do work for some people. You have a great set of cards and CL's you're building with right now. Congrats on that note!
