C1 GM BuyPower rewards upgrade!

So, apparently, this is a new-ish upgrade, but I figured if I didn't know, other people might not either. The card has always let points be redeemed for the purchase of a new vehicle, but now they can also be redeemed for service at a GM center, GM accessories, Onstar, etc.

This is on their website:

You can also redeem up to $250 in statement credits† each year for purchases on eligible in-dealership Certified Service, parts and accessories or GM Extras like SiriusXM® subscriptions, and most OnStar® and Connected Services plans.†† Earnings must be redeemed within 90 days of qualifying purchases. Earnings don’t expire on an open Account.

I'll probably apply for this once my US Bank Altitude Go gardening is over, so I can get 5% on some things that I'm currently getting 3% on and redeem them every month to pay for my monthly Onstar bill!

By the way, does anyone know if I can product change my Quicksilver or Walmart card over to this one?

I was debating this card months ago, and that was mentioned in the terms. I ultimately decided against it so that I'm not locked into a GMC/Chevy when I get a 2024 model year truck. Anyway, I did like the $250 to spend on service in case I didn't somehow get to use it on the purchase and/or to be able to continue using points when not saving for another vehicle.

You cannot PC into or out of a specialty card like the GM or WM only with Cap-1 internal cards

That certainly makes the card a little easier to swallow. For GM loyalists anyways.

More options are always better, however, the true value of this card still lies within using it to purchase a vehicle. The points get applied BEFORE taxes. There are not many ways to lower the vehicle price before taxes outside or trade-in, incentives or good ol' fashioned negotiation. If you know you are going to get a GM vehicle and you go all in on this card you can get a nice chunk off that vehicle price.

I just discovered this perk myself, and used it to pay for the SiriusXM subscription in my Ford Flex for the next 12 months @ $5/mo and got the free Echo Dot offer they've been sending me for months. My next step with this one is to see if I can get my oil changed at a GM dealer and redeem it from rewards even though it's not a GM vehicle. Fine print only specifies it needs to be an approved dealer service, so fingers crossed.

sounds like a decent benefit and being able to use it for both onstar and XM is a huge bonus.
