So, for the benefit of all:

1. How many recent inquires did you have prior to app? 1 - EQ

2. How many new accounts did you have prior to app? none showing on CB yet, but PenFed is only acct less than 6 mo

3. What if any derogs? old baddies from late 2004, early 2005

4. What is your utilization? less than 7% (paid off Lowe's)

5. What was your highest CL (reported) prior to app? $10.6k - Citi

I ask, because you obtained the lowest fixed rate with scores less than 740. So obviously other factors relate to the APR.

I have actually always qualified for the lowest fixed rate there for my car loans, likely because I am an existing customer and have always paid on time. Be prepared to show proof of income.

I've been a member there for three years - just wondering if ya'll could share your CC experiences with them. They base their APRs on your credit scores (740+ gets the lowest), so I'd get a 9.9%, but I want to know if they give generous CLs. I don't qualify for NFCU, and can't seem to talk my sister and bro in law into joining, so please don't suggest that as an option.

Thank you!!!

I'm not in the area, but it looks to have a good rate (6.9) and others can join (not in TX) with a $20 donation. I spoke to CS to ask about membership (although I'm done with my spree) and the person was really nice (good signt). Another good alternative along with Addison.

They are great to work with for a car loan, and they are very responsive. But I don't have experience with them for a CC. I don't want to waste the INQ if their CLs are tiny.

Hey,

I have been with UFCU for almost 2 years now and they have been really good to me. I have refinance auto loans with them starting at 7.4%. Then back in march 2009 i requested for a lower APR and yes they approved to reduced it down to 5.95%. I was happy for that..

I also have a credit card with them started with $3K limit, then i increased to $4k, then $6.5k, then now at $10k. The CC APR now at 9.9%, initially 11.9%. They say to get 6.9% you need a credit score of 740 or better and I'm working on that. I'm almost there, maybe I am there already.

So far so good, they are pretty cool, the best Credit Union I ever joined. I also have join Texas Tech FCU but rarely used their services..

If you rest your mouse above the explanations, it will give a description. When I called, the CSR told me that 740 or above is excellent credit, 680+ is good credit, and anything below 680 falls into the other ranges. They refi'd my 17.5% car loan to 11.5% a few years ago, then dropped me to 4.95% in 2008.

For me personally I'm going to wait a little longer to join/app. I want to let my 4 new CC age a bit so that when it comes time to pull my CR they can see that I'm handling my new credit well. Also, my car re-fi was completed but currently both loans (old & new) are still reporting as open so until that gets resolved my guess would be they will think I've got too many credit obligations each month.

I'll just keep checking back to see what people post about them. Based on them clearly offering credit on their website based on your score they sound more like NFCU as far as those of us with scores south of sterling.

Reading over the descriptions as far as length of history etc I fit under execellent but am more over to the fair side regarding past delinquencies etc

If you don't plan to apply right away, you might as well apply for membership now. This way you have some "membership" age and your inquries will all be aged together (closer toward not counting and falling off).

Membership pulls usually are not related to credit pulls (except in rare cases like Alliant where they will use same within 30 days for all loans).

So I suggest joining now, then if you decide to app for credit in 6 months, you have that time in membership working for you, IMO

I just app'd and got approved for the 6.9% rate for $10K, and have to show proof of income. I'll forward them my invoices and will have the app finalized in the next day or so!!!

I love this CU.
