topic US bank reporting by end of month regardless of statement closing date. Is this the norm for them? in Credit Cards

I noticed that US bank is reporting balances to credit bureaus by the end of the month despite the closing statement date.

For example 2 of my US bank cards have closing statements that close in the middle of the month and they will wait until the end of the month to report both at the same time.

Also, my gf opened a US bank card mid month and by the end of that month they reported the new account to the bureaus despite the fact that there was no balance or even a statement generated. So now that she has a small balance from a BT offer she took and the statement closed on the 6th of August, but payment is due sept 3rd, I am guessing they will report this balance by the end of this month as well.

This is interesting since this is the first time I notice this and wanted to corroborate this info with you guys.

Does US bank report by the end of the month only? May be for convenience. NOt sure.

They always report what your balance is on the last business day of the month regardless of when your statement date is. If you would like to micromanage account balances, it is easy to request a new due date. I changed my due date to the 28th of the month so I won't have to make multiple payments if I need it to report a 0 balance.

Yep both posters above are correct and that's been a common knowledge here.

But for all the new members and visitors.... USBank reports whatever the account balance is on the last business day of each month.

I have 2 US Bank Cards and it is the same for me. I have been thinking about it. I am going to change my due date to 28th so I dont have to worry about keeping track of dates.

Update: I called US Bank and changed due date for both cards to 28th of the month. Makes my life easier.

I have a related question regarding this... if you are approved for a new card, will it report to the credit bureaus on the last day of the month if you get it late in the month? Is there a general cutoff?

example: approved on 15th, reports on 30th/31st?

Approved on 28th, report on 30th? Just wondering what is the best date to apply to delay reporting.

Yep that is consistent with what I know. A good way to simplify things is to apply for a US Bank card at the end of the month. Assuming the account is opened, it will start the billing on that opening date near the beginning of the month and avoid the hassle of trying to move a due date.

Of course, it's always easy to call in or change the due date, but I'm hesitant to call anybody telling them I want to delay my due dates in such a time like right now when lenders can only see alarm bells ringing when somebody is asking to move their due date which might scare them and trigger AA.
