NFCU Secured Graduation!!

Patience, patience, patience is truly the name of the game!!

I got into navy in Feb with the secured card and a $1700 deposit. I had read and was really inspired by so many success stories with CLs etc so I decided to give it a try. At the time I was sitting at mid-low 600s across all bureaus.

Fast forward to now. Last month I used the pre-qual tools and was pre-qualed for all the cards (high 600 TU, 700-10 EQ, around a 670-680? EX). I was approved for a $6k GO Rewards card!! My highest limit yet! Additionally I refinanced my car loan from Cap1 (15%) to NFCU (4.29%)!

Now, I had originally though I would be up for graduation last month and it didn't come so I was a bit bummed but it turns out after a call a few weeks ago it was this month. My 6th full statement cut on the 19th and nothing. I called and they said they hadn't seen any notes yet and was sitting here confused as I already had an unsecured card and relatively low car loan APR but I read somewhere recently that the systems may just be slow due to COVID-19 and as I'm typing now I remember a representative telling me things at NFCU are moving slower than normal due to the pandemic so it really adds up. Fast forward early this morning, I had already come to terms that I probably just didn't make the cut this month and was exploring options of maybe paying it off and getting my money back etc, I go to my secured card and see more available credit than normal and naturally swiped down first to see if maybe something was reversed and I saw $2k available credit!! I called to confirm and my secured card was converted to a cashRewards card!! They let me know that my deposit would be back in my savings acct by 12AM tomorrow (again slow due to pandemic so not immediate like usual).

I just say that to say this, be very patient, pay on time and if you can in full, and Navy will always treat you well. I saw some folks getting luck with a CLI request right when they were unsecured so I attempted for the full 50k (shoot for the stars aim for the moon haha) just to see if I can get the 2 bumped up to around 6-7. Super happy to finally be writing my own success story after reading so many and being inspired by them.

@sbabs1997 Congratulations on the graduation! It feels good, the best part is not having to make multiple payments every month.

Keep in mind you can pc the card now to the others if you don't want another 1.5% CB card (not to the flagship).

Also once your card is a year old, you can ask them to reduce your interest rate.

Congrats! I just got my NFCU secured this month. I'm looking forward to a graduation in the future. I am honestly happy with just PenFed and NFCU. Both are opening doors for me.
