Discover is confusing me with app status

I applied for Discover More a few days ago.

It came back and said they could not approve the card applied for, but had a counter offer card.

Counter offer Terms said

- 3.25% APR for 6 months

- 18.99% purchases rate after promo

- no AF

- 25 day grace

It didn't say what type of card or if it was issued by another bank.

So, I thought I had been declined the More card and was going to get an HSBC Discover. Email now says More Card.

I thought that Discover more LIMITED the amount of rewards to like $400 per year or some number. This email says UNLIMITED and NEVER expires???

Anyone explain what has happened and what I am getting?

When I go to the Discover Card Application Status page and put in SS# and ZIP it can't find my application.

Well, the email seems to say you are getting the Discover More. And I'm not too up on the rewards program they have.

I can't really comment on the rest, I being a new Discover CC holder myself. And Discover has confused me in statement / reporting dates.

Anyone else got any ideas on this app status question?

Unlimted is refers to the normal cash back which you only get $7.5 on the 3K a year, and 4x year 5% promo ddon't count that for that 3K the proms have caps $200 $$400 $800(travel)

Shop discover is a cash cow their no limits on and last last I heard you get you normal cash bonus in addtion shopdiscover bonus so if your beyond the 3K teir you wou;d get 6% at a 5% site khols is a good place to shop the don't require promo codes for shipping promos it ethier all to all orders or has some requirements but the point is you can get special shipping and you shopdiscover bonus 5%

The email says approved for Discover More and I don't see any compelling reason to disagree. I would like to know the details of the acceptance (APR/CL/Intro offer) when they are known. Could you post them back in this thread when they come through, OP?

Sure will. I'm just confused. First on the application it said they couldn't approve me for the card applied for (MORE) and now I get an email which states I'm getting the More.

The terms on the "counter offer" had a higher APR and didn't mention rewards. Now the email says rewards.

They are being kinda Jekyl Hide on this. And the real strange thing....application status page still can't find me.

You got an acceptance email from Discover for a Discover More Card and are going to have to believe it. If you want a better answer you will have to call Discover and ask. There is no problem in doing that. They are pretty good. BTW - A lot of those online app status info screens don't work correctly. No info there is a sign of nothing.

Did you accept the HSBC counter offer or not? If you did you might end up with two cards.

When it said I wasn't approved for the original application, I did accept the counter offer card, but I did not see anything that said HSBC on it. It just had terms of APR, no AF, grace period, etc. I wasn't sure exactly what card I had accepted.

The counter offered card is an HSBC issued Discover card. The card works on the Discover/Novus network but is not issued by Discover Financial Services and does not include the Discover benefits and rewards. I would call Discover as soon as you can and find out what's going on with your app. Be sure to let them know you got a Discover More approval email.

I applied for a Discover More card a few months ago using a promo code that was in the paper. I got the same counter offer and accepted it. The offer I applied for was 0% APR for a specified time and $100 cash back bonus when I spent $599 on the card. My counter offer was an APR of 3.99% until the last day of my billing period ending December 2009 and no additional cash back bonus other than the 5% rewards. I then got an email confirming I was approved for a Discover More card and got it in the mail a few days later. I agree that you should call them to confirm but, I think you got the Discover More card issued by them and not the one issued by HSBC.

If only I could get a discover card... even with a fluke mix-up like this... Discover has absolutely NO love for me. Always same reason - TOO MANY INQUIRIES (even when I only had 2 showing).

OP - You probably got the card, I would call to confirm! Cant hurt any...

I actually apped for Discover Open Road HOPING to get the HSBC Discover so I could combine my Orchard Card CL with the new HSBC Discover.

I received the counter offer letter and called, and after a few questions the Rep told me, "Congratulations, I can approve you today for the Discover Open Road, $1000 CL, 3.99 til 1/10 and 18.99% after.

I accepted, albeit a not so hot offer, but hey, my scores frankly didn't give me any chance at this card period (650-ish). So I'm pretty happy to get my foot in the door with this Prime Card.:smileyhappy:

Look for that new Discover card to appear on your credit reports before you received the card in the mail.

Nope, hasn't shown in CR's yet (checked CCT).

I called Discover to activate and asked which card this was. They said MORE and enrolled me in the 5% cash back program. Right now is Gas & something else.

I asked if this was a Discover issued account or issued by another bank, she said this card is issued by Discover Financial Services.

Yeah! I was afraid I was getting the HSBC.

OOPS. Experian just popped up DISCOVER FIN SVS.

So I spoke too soon. Got my card today and it hit my CR today.

Wow, they like to tell the world quick, don't they!

Your approval was threshold. 18.99% is the highest APR Discover is currently assigning to new accounts. Consider yourself very fortunate - a true Discover card is far better than the cobranded HSBC Discover Card.

If you faithfully pay your account on time and otherwise maintain your credit that APR can come down. Mine started at 11.99% and is now 9.99%.

You will find Discover to be a very prompt reporter. I am surprised your new card did not report before you received it. Most do.

Yes I will treat it right. I'm just confused what the whole "we can't approve you for the card applied" was about??? I applied for the MORE card and got the MORE card after they told me I didn't qualify and would receive a counter offer card.

Oh well, I'm just glad this is how it turned out and I didn't get the HSBC card. I still have my Orchard (oldest open account now) and I wanted the Prime Discover from discover, not a subprime HSBC.
