I have some questions about my AMEX card and future cards in general? Thank you in advance for the responses!

1. Does the 61 day 3x CLI work on cards with a 2k limit? I know that it's difficult with a 1k limit

2. Is the "Congratulations, you're preapproved" message accurate even if you just got a card 1 month ago and only 11 months total history?

3. Is it wise to apply for a new card before I try the CLI or should I err on the side of caution and wait?

Yes 61 days works on 2k. That doesn't mean you'll get one. CLI are harder to get.

Do CLI before new app. Preapproval is pretty solid.

1. CLI always can be done but isn't guaranteed

2. Yes. You can open up multiple Amex cards in a short time frame.

3. I've seen it work both ways where you can CLI before or after an app. I'd rather have a new Amex than a higher limit.

I've not asked Amex for a CLI since 2015 (but have opened other cards and made reallocations). So I'm not an expert on those.

But if I saw a SUB I wanted, I would focus on that. CLIs and reallocations can always come later.

I would do the CLI first. I doubt it would affect your ability to get a new card.

Exactly! Whereas a CLI may be denied after new app.
