Its been 12 years since my Amex burn and I am still black balled with them, which I get but they got bailed out as well. Wouldve liked to see if I could get a Business card with them since Ive heard they do SP on Personal but I think I will just say forget it...

If you burned them for over $5K then just move on as you probably won't get back in with them anytime soon! Personal or business wise. I've read some DPs of 20+ years before getting off the dog house for $10K IIBs!

Yes! chapter 7 in 2007 burned them for around 3k. Checked every couple years. Checked a month ago and was pre-approved for 3 cards. Chose the gold which was the one I burned them with. Approved and has my member since 1999 printed on the card. My DTI is extremely low. Paid cash for vehicles and morgage paid off many years ago. Fico 8 scores 735-745. One 30d late Capital one in Jan 2020. Stupid mistake on autopay. No fault but my own. No collections report clean except for one 30D They hard pulled Experian. Good Luck! Let me know if you have any more questions. I'm a self-employed small business owner and will be applying for a business card next month with them. I'm sick over the amount of points I could have accumulated over the last decade for business expenses.

OP as you can see that the data points are all over the place. Seems like to get the answer you're looking for you may have to be your own data point on this one. I'm sure others will continue to chime in with their experience.

Amex is very interesting in situations of such. As with most things with credit it's YMMV and it seems that life after burning them is no different.

Best of luck to you if yo do indeed decide to go for it. Do chime in if you'd like if you decide to give it a go.

About 10 years later, they gave me a gold card through my employer (govt.) for business/travel expenses. Another 5-6 years after that, I applied and was approved for both the Gold and BCE and they were still backdating so I guess I am a lucky one. Maybe they considered the fact that I was a stupid college kid and they gave me another shot. Today, Amex is still my oldest tradeline (26+ years).

Good luck!

Yes I had approx. $2,500 charged off and sent to collections in 2009. I was able to get instantly approved for a Gold card a couple of weeks ago with a 757 EX FICO8, and it was a hard pull. My card has my original Member Since 05 printed on it without having to ask for it.

I burned them for just over $10k on a business platinum card right around 2010/2011 and just got back in with a personal card if that helps

I also have the "Member Since 04" on my card, I was quite surprised by that

It seems the lower the charge off, the better the odds. I have tried to pre-qual since 2016 and no go, its ok I am fine with not having Amex. I did my credit spree in 2019 and B of A and Discover let me back in, so I am good. Just wanted to see what the odds were, mine are not good and I will move on...

I burned Amex for approximately $505.00 on my former Costco True Earnings Amex card when I filed my BK Chapter 7 in 10/2013. Tried to apply for a charge card last week and I am still blacklisted after nearly 7 years. Not sure when I will get back in but I will keep trying. I know it was a not allowed to pay off cards before filing but I regret not scraping the $500 to pay the card off. I loved the 4 Amex cards I had before the BK was filed.

OP - have you applied recently and been denied without a HP?

Asking because if you're just trying the preapproval tool and coming up empty, that doesn't always mean you're still blacklisted.

@Anonymous wrote:

@newmomnewme Thank you!

Yes I did post in approvals a couple of weeks ago. My new card hasn't shown up on my credit reports yet, but I highly doubt the account age will be backdated to my original Amex opening. I'm sure it's just the internal member recognition, which is nice anyway.

Yes. The backdating is only internal to Amex. Will not be reported to the bureaus

I burned them in '12 to the tune of about 8k, I believe. I ended up paying the debt in full. In 9/2019 I was approved for a Delta Gold with a $1,000 SL while the original CO was still reporting on EX. A year later and a couple of approved 3X CLIs I'm at 2 cards with $13,000 total. Still have pre-approvals for all cards on their site so I assume they'd even toss me another one if I asked.

Yes, we burned AMEX for 10k in 2008 and I was approved for a BCP this year. Not sure if my status as an AU on that original card impacted that, your mileage may vary.
