JetBlue miles don't expire, if that info affects your rush to use points.

Barclays offers a no-AF JetBlue card, but they can be fussy about PCs. I tried to downgrade my Aviator Red to a no-AF Aviator card and they didn't allow it (even though others have been allowed the same PC).

I'm waiting for my JetBlue card. I'll take their 100k miles and close after a year or two.

Originally I took it out 3 years ago because I thought I would be traveling a bit more domestically (I have a Chase United card that is 7 years old) and it would give me flexibility between two airlines.

Well, I have flown exactly 0 times with the airline.

The account history remains for up to 10 years. The only concern would be utilization. Which won't really be affected much.

I would open the Chase and then close. Definitely under 5/24 if those are only cards. No AF cards can be sock drawered, but close AF cards that won't be used, or ask to downgrade when an option.
