Wells Fargo Propel vs. US Bank Altitude Go?

Hello friends! I'm looking for a card with strong dining rewards as dining is my biggest spending category by far. I know there are a lot of options but the Wells Fargo Propel and the US Bank Altitude Go have particularly caught my eye. What are your thoughts on one vs. the other? The Altitude Go has 4% on dining, which is awesome, but only 2% on streaming, gas and groceries, whereas the Propel has 3% on all of those plus a travel category. Obviously no one is doing a whole lot of traveling right now, but when there isn't a global pandemic I'm a fan. I also do spend money on streaming, gas and groceries, but not as much as I do on dining. It seems to me the Propel is probably a slightly better all-around card... BUT also it's an American Express. I've never had one so I'm not sure if it's as accepted as Visa.

As far as applying, I have no applications in the last 2 years and my FICO is 796 so I think I could probably get approved for either card. I have a business account with US Bank (with a very low balance, not sure if that helps or hurts), and no banking relationship with Wells Fargo.

Current cards and limits: Chase Freedom ($7600), BofA Better Balance ($6000), CapOne QS ($4800) and Citi DC ($4450)

Thoughts? Does anyone have any experience with either or both?

If you ever plan to book a flight through wf travel portal, and is planning to get wells visa signature, its 4.5% on all travel, dining, gas with propel.

Propel also has lots of good Earn More Mall deals and wells fargo deals (I have earned more than 30k GF points on 4.5k spending this year from EMM).

The myth that they arent , to me, is bubkiss its very rare to go anywhere that wont accept Amex at least in our part of the world.

I kinda lol when its said ONLY 2% on certain categories. Im no math major and im sure, as seen on here, there are lots of people who spend so much money 1% difference is big enough a difference to swoon over the extra 1 %, but honestly you probably go either way on either card. Wells seems to be even more conservative even with a relationship and seems harder to cli than US Bank. You have an established relationship due to having Business so maybe you might get a better sl there. Good luck on either choice, kudos on the 2 year appless draught.stay on this board we will have you 6/24 before Sunday😄

As I read your post you said the Altitude Go because 4% dining but only 2% on streaming, gas and groceries. I immediately thought "get the BCP. Blue Cash Preferred from Amex. 6% on streaming services, 6% gas and $6 groceries. Plus they got a $300 sign up bonus right now! To address the 4% dining, you have a Chase Freedom, nvm I just remembered it's the Chase Freedom Unlimited that got the extra benefits of 3% cash back on dining, take out and delivery services plus 5% travel using the Chase portal. You could apply for the Chase Freedom Flex. Get the categories mentioned above plus 5% categories plus 5% on groceries for the next 12 months and $200 sign up bonus. Or product change your freedom to the freedom unlimited? Which I wouldn't personally do because I like the 5% categories. Among the cards I got, I have the BCP, Chase Freedom, Chase Freedom Unlimited, 2 US Bank Cash +, Discover It, Bank Of America Cash Rewards, Citi DC. So a lot of category options where you can have multiple ways of doing this. I also thought about getting the Altitude Go but since upgrading my card to the BCP and Cahse adding the 3% on the Unlimited, I don't see myself applying for 1% difference.

Porque no los dos?

I went for both in June, did the Altitude Go first then the Propel. Go gets food, drinks, and my music streaming sub, Propel gets gas, Netflix, and travel if that picks up.

The $15 annual streaming credit from the Altitude Go covers $500 spending at 3% on the Propel.

Originally I was going to do just the Propel, but then found the Altitude Go and wanted the higher cashback on food and the $15 credit just works out well as another bonus.

Thank you everyone for your advice! I ended up listening to @ccquest and applied for both as part of a four application app spree. I started with US Bank since I already have a relationship with them and I've heard they're very sensitive to inquiries. They pulled Experian and approved me right away with a $5,000 limit, which I understand is the lowest Visa Signature limit (and which I'm very happy with). I then applied for another card (also approved but I'll post details in the Approvals forum) before moving on to the Propel. They also pulled Experian and responded that they need to verify some information, which doesn't sound that promising but we'll see! Since I already have the Altitude Go I feel like I'll be fine either way, although I do want an approval of course.

Very much looking forward to my Altitude Go arrival
