Playstation Card Revamp (UPDATE 1/26/21)

This card was never very good for earning as it was mainly focused on Sony purchases. They improved it by adding mobile phone as a reward category, but still required you to fill out a forum to get 5x back on Sony purchases. Unfortunately, the forum is still required, but they changed the other bonus categories.

I'm having trouble finding it, do you know how much the point value is in USD?

I found that in order to redeem, you need at least 500 points (equivalent to $100 Cash spend in PlayStation store) but no where do I see how much these can be redeemed for or what type of redemption (statement credit or gift cards?).

This card became useless to me when Capital One sold it. The 10x on PlayStation made it worthwhile. The other bonus categories the 5% from my other cards do better.

5x I cam easily get in cash from Best Buy, Amazon, or better yet, just buy points from Raise with BoA 3% via online purchases to get around 5 to 7% back.

Add a portal to that's usually 1 to 2% and the card is obsolete.

If the card was a cash back card it would be okay but I agree that the loss of the 10X hurt this card a lot. The redemption options when I had it were pretty awful as well. Most games were full retail price, for example, which meant you were already taking a loss versus buying it for $20 online elsewhere.

I just logged into my Sony Rewards account and I can see my 294 points didn't expire which is surprising since I haven't had the card since 2018 but it does indeed look like everything is still full retail price and gift cards cost even more. For example, a $25 Kohl's gift card is 2975 points... and that's on sale, its normally 3500 points.

Looks like the points do indeed expire.

I don't usually buy games from PSN because I find them cheaper elsewhere so this card makes zero sense for me.

Yeah they have bumped the points to 10X through 12/31 but I like more flexible cards.

I had definitely given this CC some thought back when it was issued by Capital One (used to have the Sony version when Citi and Chase serviced it eons ago). But, I agree that redemption options have withered away over time. Definitely not worth it now 😬

To get 1cp for the points, just use it on PlayStation gift cards. Last I used, it was 1000 points for a $10 Playstation Gift card.

It'll work still quite well if you don't have other cards to use those spends on. Plus you get you to sport some Playstation designs if that's important 😉

Before I closed I'd always have Ellie and Joel in my wallet (Last of Us design). I still keep the card in my wallet just for the kicks.

They sure do bury those. It's not listed under gift cards which is why I didn't see it before.

There is something quite circular about valuing Playstation currency at 1cent per point. It's the house currency. The devaluation of the US Dollar is already built in .

Just got the email. Only thing different from the original post is 10x on playstation products through 2/28/21. Then it goes back to 5x.

That's a pretty good deal if you spend money frequently on these games. Even their normal rates aren't terrible. Do you know if the "insurance" category includes car insurance? Because that's one of my biggest expenses and it always just gets rolled into my 1.5% CB card.

Just looked up the card...and went through some T&C. Couldn't find the regular reward rates. It seems to only be a 2% CB card when subscribed to two of their services (they don't even have two compelling services tbh) and 3% if you have three services. Does this seem right to you? What were the non-promo benefits that you've seen @Brian_Earl_Spilner ?
