Citi AAdvantage APR Decrease 22.99% > 8.99%

Hi Friends,

Just wanted to share another DP for a Citi APR reduction. I signed up for the AAdvantage a couple of weeks back and received the card in the mail a few days ago.

I decided to hop on chat and see what the reps could do to lower my APR. Mind you, I did the same thing when my Premier came in the mail. That APR went down from 21.99 > 14.99. After a few rounds of chat, I got my AAdvantage Platinum reduced from 22.99 > 8.99! This is my lowest card and this even rivals many credit union cards out there. I always PIF but I just like the feeling of having the lowest rates possible haha.

I might try again after my first statement posts and see if they're willing to go down further. I hope this helps anyone who is considering a Citi card. Yes, their IT and CS might not be top-notch but they give out SP CLIs and lower APRs on request.

Nice reduction!

Citi is really good about APR reductions. I would say that the vast majority that ask for one get it... just many people never ask or think they can't ask. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

Not sure what I find more amusing: the chutzpah to keep asking and asking after already getting one or more reductions, or the mindless granting of serial requests. Citi is... unique!

Just to add, not all requests are fulfilled. Thats a huge drop in apr . Whats the stated lowest apr on this card? I cant imagine a core Citi card going below 9% thats just like hitting the credit lottery

I think mine is 14.something and I've never been able to get it lower than that, despite asking every few months or whenever I think of it.

Nice job @regional_ryan . I got to Citi cards in February. The Citi DC is at 16.99% and the Citi AAD is at 22.99%. Both are at $0 balance right now and are usually PIF every month. I'm going to see if they can lower my APR's as well. You motivated me. Thanks.

I called Citi. The CS rep lowered the APR on my Citi AAD from 22.99% to 20.99%. I whined a little and he emailed the Marketing department to see if I can get a better APR. Hopefully they can get me an APR better than 18%

Felicitations, @regional_ryan! Good for you! It'd be great to see a screen shot of the new APR rate from your Citi account page (sans any identifying info, of course). Will you post it?
