Amex platinum $30 paypal credit

$30 credit a month when using PayPal with your platinum card (personal only, i am assuming on CS also, i will post in a few days if i don't get on my cs platinum). The credit replaces,the cellphone/ streaming credit.

Just saw this posted on another spot. This would be awesome if it indeed shakes out. I like a more universal credit rather than those linked to a specific category such as streaming.

Amex is smart to offer these credits. It's hard not to question the value of the Platinum Card during the pandemic. I personally need to stick with it regardless, since I just got my SUB less than a year ago. But for anybody who was thinking about closing it, this is an easy $180 against the annual fee for most people. I also liked the streaming service credit, which was also easy for most people to use, albeit only $20/month. I took full advantage of it and will take full advantage of this PayPal credit. If you use all the Platinum Current Credits as of 01/01/2021:

Saks - $100
Airline - $200
Uber - $200
Paypal - $180

Total Credits - $680

You would profit from the AMEX Platinum card by (Credits 680 - AF $550 = +$130).

I'm hoping I can stack: Rakuten + Saks + Paypal = KILLER DEAL!

I don't shop at Saks. I intended to buy a gift there in 2020, but couldn't find anything I wanted to buy even with the credit. In fairness, I didn't try very hard.

I do not use Uber or Uber Eats at all.

I might use the airline credit in a normal year, but, not in the covid era.

So, I really appreciate the credits that I think most people can use easily, such as the streaming credit and the PayPal credit. Then again, there may be Saks/Uber aficianos out there who don't pay for streaming services and don't use PayPal ...

On the plus side, I get the $150 CAP statement credit for this card, so I don't have as high a hill to climb.

This is a good credit for Amex to offer. I wish I could take advantage of it in some way. I've been "banned for life" from PayPal. I've managed fine without it for the last couple of years, but it would have been nice to use these credits.

eBay has a pay with paypal guest option that you could see if it works

or if you have a partner to add as au they could use paypal direct for it

In short: a few years back, I was selling a few things on eBay. Over the holidays, sales picked up, as expected. But PayPal froze my account for unusually high activity. They said that they would unfreeze my account when I provided them with: invoices for my items, credit card information, a utility bill with my home address, and a photocopy of my driver's license. I told them that they aren't a bank, their accounts aren't FDIC insured, and they have no right to that level of personal or financial information. After a few back and forths over the phone, they shut down my account and that was that.

Thanks for the options. I wasn't aware of a guest checkout. I can give that a try.

My concern about going through someone else's PayPal account is that if the credit card is tied to me, will it cause PayPal to scrutinize their account and possibly shut it down? I've never added an AU to a card. What would a company like PayPal see if an AU used my card to make a purchase?

PayPal faces the same anti-money laundering rules as other banks. They also collect funds and distribute funds, and hold funds for customers just like a bank. Perhaps no FDIC insurance, but they have an interest in properly completing legitimate transactions for their clients / customers.

Lots of people and businesses collect or distribute funds, and they all have an interest in successfully completing transactions. That doesn't entitle them to all of the personal information that PayPal asks for. Bu they still aren't a bank, and don't deserve to be treated like one. They can ask for the Moon (which, as far as I'm concerned, they did), and I decided not to give it to them. It hasn't impacted me in any way until just now.

PayPal is a credit card merchant processor and is therefore obligated by the same federal laws that apply to Global Payments, First Data, Vantiv, etc. They are not entitled to those details, they are legally obligated to obtain them and to issue you an IRS Form 1099-K once you surpass the requisite amount of sales in a given year.

Credit unions are also not FDIC insured; that does not make them exempt from collecting data to identify potential money laundering, tax evasion, and other crimes.

I don’t want to keep needlessly hijacking this thread so this is the last one.

The list of demands that PayPal made were not for the purposes of issuing a 1099, nor are those things that they would need in order to do so. PayPal already had my name, address, SSN, and checking account. More than enough info to verify identity, or anything else. What they asked for was unreasonable and unnecessary, and no decent merchant processor or gateway would ask for that information because they know they aren’t entitled to it.

I’m not trying to tell anyone that they shouldn’t use PayPal. Do what you think is best for you. For me, I’d rather not do business with a company that conducts itself as they do, regardless of how “convenient” their services might be.

Scored a new coffee maker from Saks in December and have previously stocked up on Le Creuset

Have enjoyed supporting local restaurants and all the good food I've had from UberEats

Airline credit worked well for me again in 2020 (as in previous years)

The cell/streaming credits were great and I frequently use PayPal
